    Joe Henderson

I saw him perform probably about a dozen times and have read some articles and interviews and yet he seems among the most enigmatic personalities of the jazz musicicans whose music I have loved. In performance he never addressed the audience. I have little idea about what his personality was like and there are no books, etc. to help like you have with many of the jazz greats...wonder why. Did he like fast cars, boxing, women? I don't have a clue. Have I got this wrong?
  2. Thanks Sidewinder for posting that. I wish they had explained what they meant by "baffling" with regards to the DVD - does that mean bad?
  3. best wishes Lon
  4. Ghost and Patrick Loved that Carmona game against the Red Sox and hoping for the best for Santana.
  5. Sad news... best of luck to all three of you.
  6. That 9th inning was a gasser in general. Out of backup infielders, the Yanks put Marcus Thames at third base, resulting in the following hijinks: Thames at third base Not a bad stop, but that throw! Yeah Ghost, It seemed that no one was having more fun during that game than BOTH of the benches, all the players were cracking up watching Marte. So the Tribe should always put in rookies or position players to pitch against the Yanks.
  7. Well Dave, since I am an exiled Clevelander stuck in the belly of the beast - I have to listen to what the Yankees announcers say and they said the Yankees were having an off night, of course it couldn't possibly be that Josh Tomlin did one hell of a job last night. Love it when David beats Goliath. Go Tribe.
  8. Hope you had a Happy Birthday Bebop
  9. Sad news indeed.
  10. Hope you had a great one, Guy
  11. Were there "moderators" back then? I think it was just Jim and his brother. There was certainly no J.A.W. which is the biggest difference now. Hans is doing a good job keeping the board the way Jim wants it. Thanks Kevin, I wasn't sure about moderators then. My other point was that while perhaps it is good to have more information (even for a seller) - it does not seem fair if that info is not correct.
  12. A couple of years ago, I tried to sell an Andrew Hill import cd on this board for the price I paid for it. Immediately some posters began to attack my price, saying it was available on other sites for less. Now this information might have be useful to me in order to adjust my price, but when I went to check the other sites, not one had it available and the shipping costs for one site made it roughly equal to the price I offered, which the poster who mentioned it had not noticed. Bottom line, I felt some posters were pissing all over my sale without having their facts straight and it basically killed the sale. At that time, there were no comments from any moderator on the Board.
  13. Three that come to mind are Cecil Taylor, Herbie Nichols and Betty Carter. I recognize their talents, but they don't do anything for me.
  14. THanks guys! is the Live at the Fillmore Deluxe Edition better sounding than the last previous remaster of this disc which I think is from the late 90s?
  15. I recently bought Eat A Peach (Deluxe Edition) which has much better sound and extra tracks from the last Fillmore East Concert that had not previously been issued officially. It started me thinking about getting Live at the Fillmore East (Deluxe Edition) or maybe that Fillmore Concerts box? Obviously there may be some overlap of tunes here. What have you Allman Brothers fans done? Please don't keep me wondering.
  16. not sure what to make of it, but since I am another Indians fan in exile, I read all of your Indians posts with great interest.
  17. I purchased these speakers in 1995 for $1900 and they have been carefully used since then. These are full range, floor standing speakers 33inches tall, 8.5 inches wide, and 11 inches deep. A 6.5 inch woofer and 1 inch metal dome tweeter, and each speaker weighs about 42 pounds. I have the owner's manual, floor spikes, boxes and all of the original packing material that came with these speakers. The only blemish on these speakers is that one of the cabinets has a very slight dent on a top corner of about 1/8 to 1/4 inch in size. These speakers were a Stereophile Recommended Component. I am looking for $1195. I could ship these but it probably make sense to look at them and hear them first. I am in the NYC metro area.
  18. This cracks me up. If Emberglow can "easily hear the lyrics" even on this new 2010 remaster he has Superhuman hearing.
  19. I picked up the single disc version after hearing various extra tracks and alternates and not being too impressed. The remastered original album is, on my system and to my ears, a big sound quality improvement over the 90s Vigin edition of this album.
  20. THanks guys for all of your interesting comments.
  21. Doesn't anyone want to talk about Valleys? THis may be the best officially released version of "Red House" ever! Noel Redding's backing vocals on "Fire" is about as pleasant as fingernails on a blackboard.
  22. Was there discussion by posters who bought this disc? I just picked it up and some of it is very good, other parts I don't like. Is it superior to First Rays of the New Rising SUn? that's "Cry of Love" for those who had the old lps, right? as a kid that one disappointed me because I thought the first 3 studio albums to be masterpieces!!
  23. You scared the crap out of me, Hardbopjazz. When I saw Sam's name followed by dates I was worried about the worst. Go easy on me man, I have a condition.
  24. thanks Dave, that was interesting.
  25. Did anybody else see this Wall Street Journal article touting a survey that shows the Indians as the "most-hated team in baseball"? The Indians?! Really?! Gotta wonder about Nielsen's methodology there. I saw it and it can only mean that their fans are disappointed... I mean they haven't been dominant enough to hate like the Yankees!! Thanks Dan - this was funny. I guess we won't be seeing the Bosox in the ALCS.
