I know it.

I'm not a big Star Wars fan, to say the least. Empire Strikes Back (the second one) is the only halfway decent film in the series, and the Ewoks were a ripoff of H. Beam Piper's Fuzzies. Of course, my kids WILL be seeing the new one.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Did not know that... exciting news indeed! Some of the sequels, esp. ANOTHER THIN MAN, are pretty good... even SONG OF THE THIN MAN has its moments, with an aging Powell and Loy disoriented by bop/hipster NYC musicians. Was Another Thin Man the one that involved horse racing? I think that was my favorite sequel, if memory serves.

It's amazing. Hubble, thanks to the beautiful pictures it produces, has been the single greatest public relations success that NASA has had during the last 15 years...so they're NOT going to maintain it, and just let the thing die. Brilliant.

I think The Daily Show is going to cover this topic next week. But Jim, I agree with you 100%. Those creepy beauty contests for little girls are disturbing.... Let'em be kids for a few years for godsake!

I've got a lot of the Calvin and Hobbes collections, but this is still mightly tempting! Easily my favorite newpaper strip of the last 25 years. And I love those Fantagraphics Peanuts reprints. They were long overdue. Granted that the 50 years of Peanuts wasn't entirely consistant, but if Schulz were like Watterson he would have quit the strip in 1961 and we'd now be marveling at it's consistantly high quality.

I think it's just nice to be reminded once in a while that having the biggest payroll in MLB doesn't necessarily guarentee anything. (And it's BECAUSE they have the biggest payroll that the Yankees are in panic mode right now. If they had one of the smallest they could blame their losing streak on that.)

Maybe next I should read The Thin Man.

I've loved that movie since I was a kid. I'm also a fan of William Powell movies in general, especially the Thin Man series. Me too. I was lucky enough to see the entire series on the big screen at Cambridge's Brattle Theater some years ago. Granted that the first is the best, the series is a lot of fun, except for the last movie. William Powell and Myrna Loy go together so well.

Just watched the Criterion of My Man Godfrey again. What a great film. Anyone else here a fan?

Never read the books, or listened to the radio show. Nevertheless, I intend to see it this coming weekend. I've got a feeling my kids would like it.
