  1. I’m sorry to hear that. I enjoyed his posts. RIP.
  2. Happy Birthday from a fellow October 5th-er!
  3. Thank you all I think I will toddle over to our local record shop and reward myself with a present!
  4. This is an interesting article by the Times critic Giovanni Russonello on how he approaches a recording like Blue World. What a Jazz Critic Hears on Coltrane’s ‘New’ Album
  5. I liked his response on the explanation of the lyrics of Dark Star. By the way, if you haven’t seen “Long Strange Trip,” i strongly recommend it.
  6. He listened to all of them but he also listened to some stuff that was really out there, Swedish death metal, etc. and, of course, he made me listen to it if we were out driving, as well as dragging me to a few concerts. Interesting experience but one that I’m glad I don’t have to repeat.
  7. Not even comparable. The GD permitted and encouraged it as long as the tapers didn't use it for comercial purposes. This woman never had permission to do so and who knows what use she planned to make it, not to mention Mutter didn't want her to do so. You go to any performance and taping is not allowed. That's not hard to understand.
  8. In the New Yorker: Robert Hunter Gave the Grateful Dead Its Voice
  9. My son, in his death metal days, had a cd by Marduk, Panzer Division Marduk.
  10. In the society we live in today, many think they can do what they want and that rules of conduct don't apply to them. Absurd.
  11. I have almost all of the Bebop Revisited series and think they're fantastic.
  12. A terrific article, well written and illustrated by Bobby Tanzillo; he deserves a lot of credit. Thanks for the link Chewy.
  13. Live and learn. Wonder if the buyer will flip them. Some of these sets you can buy on eBay at a low price, if you're patient.
  14. But will it keep you awake
  15. I’ve had this one for years, which I’ve listened to more times than I can remember. A key group of my youth.
  16. I agree about Randy not having other hits but he was such a prolific songwriter and had songs like I Love LA — which I understand is played every game at Dodgers Stadium— that it’s hard to describe him as a one hit wonder.
  17. You might want to check this out.
  18. I’m happy to be proved wrong but I don’t think he was as popular in the US as Europe. When I lived in Spain he was a legend.
  19. Cliff Richard doesn’t belong on the list. He’s had many hits. Nor does Randy Newman. Aside from Short People, he’s had a couple of other hits, although no number 1s.
  20. I’ve ordered a few things from Import CDs lately and have been very satisfied. i know we’re mostly focused here on jazz but I ordered a Grateful Dead CD from Rhino recently and they are terrible. It took two weeks for them to ship it. There are legions of complaints on Hoffman about their customer service.
