  1. Most Much and Heart of the Forrest are my favorites. All the Gin is Gone is pretty special too. Incredible lineup.
  2. Yes, that does seem the way.
  3. Thanks for the replies. Here’s one of the Storyville CDs, https://www.discogs.com/release/15247465-Various-The-Continental-Sessions-Volume-1 Volume 2, https://www.discogs.com/release/15389978-Various-The-Continental-Sessions-Volume-2-
  4. Anyone familiar with this record, https://www.discogs.com/release/5309567-Charlie-Parker-And-The-Jazz-All-Stars-With-Sarah-Vaughan-Bird-Lives If you are, is it just a compilation from other sources. Also, any comments on sound quality. Thanks.
  5. I Remember Clifford.
  6. Georghe, we don’t have to agree on every topic so no apologies needed. Obviously, some things I learned as a teenager’s influence you as you grow older. My listening tastes are probably similar to yours although I’m not a fan of later Miles. I can’t say I’m a big Brubeck fan although I love Desmond’s cool approach. DB has a different approach to jazz, which I like to listen to from time to time as a counterpoint to your normal bop, post bop, etc.
  7. I’m obviously not going to change your mind so I’m not going to try but speaking for myself, I never would have my teenage opinions of a piece of music, a book or art (especially if they were negative) dictate my opinions for the rest of my life. The person I was at 13 is not the person I am today.
  8. This was part of a RSD release last year that included all three volumes. However, Craft just announced they are releasing volume 1 again. Chicago The Blues Today
  9. Did you ever listen to Time Out (and I’m not referring to Take Five) or Jazz Red Hot and Cool. Some amazing stuff. At least I think so. Is he the best in jazz. No, but a different point of view.
  10. So you dream about Chuck. I wonder what Dr. Freud would say
  11. Was that the day back in the 1840s?
  12. Thanks. I haven’t read his other work.
  13. The Pepper is coming out in stereo later this year if that’s any consolation.
  14. I went to a local store this afternoon that was doing RSD for the first time and was able to get the Evanses (surprisingly), the Art Pepper and the Pepper Adams. Quite pleased.
  15. Have you read the Radetzky March? There was also the sequel, the Emperor’s Tomb. Not as good as the Radetzky March but still worthwhile.
  16. The narrator of this book is Joseph Roth’s Rebellion. Half the book deals with Roth and the other with the current owner, whose grandfather saved it from a Nazi book burning in 1933. Unusual and strange book.
  17. How long did you wait in line? Recent listen:
  18. I, to my later regret, did not pursue playing a musical instrument when I was young. Later in life I tried, to little avail. When I’m listening, it’s for the rhythm, the beat, and I try to focus on what the soloist is doing, where’s he’s going. Since I, unlike Gheorghe, don’t know “how to drive,” it’s a bit more rudimentary to me. I probably know more than I can express in written words, if that makes any sense.
  19. One of the minor complaints in the AMG review is that the piano was untuned.
