Potential new "jazz-related" job for the Rooster??
Brad replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
RT, it sounds to me like you are qualified for this position. You may not have worked with children a great deal but then again many people who work in day care centers haven't either. I don't know if this will be a career that you want to pursue because who know how well it pays, perks, etc. and chances for advancement but one can never tell where a certain job leads. In any event, since you have been unemployed for awhile it doesn't hurt to have an interview. It may turn out that if you get the position that this may not be what you want to do with the rest of your life but now this is time right time to find out, so go for it and good luck. -
Any suggestions on where to get Hot Line. I checked Cd universe and the Groove but nothing doing. Well, actually cd universe has it as a $38 import but that's a little too rich for me.

hey - how about some positive feedback? Sorry, I'm on it, I was forced to sit in a meeting most of yesterday and never had a chance. Going from f***in' meeting to f***in' meeting. That describes much of my work day

History of Jazz (book)
Brad replied to wesbed's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Oh, get it. This is the first jazz history book I read when I became a fan and it was worth every penny. A very good overview. He points out the contributions of every important artist. I remember his writing on Pops being particularly good. I think this is a must. -
Don't know about the cd but judging from the cover, I'd like to go on the trip.

Thoughts on your Mosaic Select purchases
Brad replied to Edward's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I've got them all except for the Chambers (had everything there; that's why I won't get the Reese). My favorites are the Amy, Carmell Jones, Benny Green and Patton. I'm not that wild about the Moncur; that's probably my least favorite. The recent Brookmeyer I'm also mixed about. I'm really glad to see the Pacific material coming out. The best that I've heard so far is the Amy, especially the vibes session. I'm grateful that I have the Amy. -
VV and Prestige that's it.

Do You Lend Out Your Mosaic Sets?
Brad replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
No friggin' way man. I'll make a cdr but no. Somebody I know who's interested in jazz wanted to borrow a couple of Jimmy Smith TOCJs to cdr them. After explaining why not and that I'd make them a cdr, they sort of accepted it but couldn't understand it. Nothing like that leaves these hands. -
As far as M taking up most of my collection (more than any other letter, that is) I noticed that too awhile ago. I have about 23 shelves of cd (50 to a shelve or so) and M takes up about 3 of them. Don't forget Howard McGhee, in case nobody mentioned him. Shelley Manne too.

I just received the new Mosaic catalogue and in discussing the new Leibman-Beirach Select, Michael C. has announced that later this year will be putting out a Select of the Don Pullen-George Adams Quartet. I don't know their music but AMG makes it sound pretty intriguing. There is also an explanation of the Stuff Smith - "lease issues"

Those people would have to pay royalties or at least get permisssion because that's a straight copy of True Blue, not to mention the moniker "The finest in jazz...". The Schwartz book is a little less blatant. You can bet that if they didn't have permission EMI's lawyers will or would have written them a letter to cease and desist.

Check out Cookin’, on Savoy, The Book Cooks on Bethlehem (Avenue Jazz) and since you have the Trance, Setting the Pace, a Prestige album. My favorite is, of course, Settin the Pace, with Dex but Cookin is also awesome, with Horace Parlan.

Alpha by artist and then alpha by disc. Pretty simple system.

I believe Big Wheel is right. I seem to recall that they had issued the Vee-Jay material that was later reissued by Mosaic (the Shorter/Morgan and the Chambers/Kelly set) and apparently they weren't licensed to issue some of this material. Mosaic had a reference on their site on the Chambers set: "This discography includes the original album issues as well as subsequent LPs and CDs that have contained alternate takes. In many cases, these alternate takes have been not identified as such. This discography is an attempt to sort out these performances accurately. Straight LP or CD reissues of the original albums or individual tracks used on compilations are not included. Also CDs on Blue Moon, which are not authorized or licensed by Vee Jay, are not included at the company's request." (emphasis added)

Hiroshi's the man. You have to go with him. I'd use HMV as a catalogue source. If it's on HMV, Mr. Tanno can get it for you.

For your penance, you must register and make 100 posts HERE Can it be all in one forum or does he get to pick and choose?

If nobody wants them, how about a high school with a good music department. I'll bet they'd like 'em.

Evan, You should love your children more but Mosaics are prized possessions. You certainly did not overpay. I think you got a good deal. It actually surprises me how little attention the Chaloff set gets. CDRs is not a bad idea (although I've never done that myself). If by falling down the Rabbit's hole, have you opened Pandora's box, or can you put the toothpaste back in the tube (or can I think of any more dumb cliches!)? The answer is YES! It's over dude.

eBay Listings for Mosaics and Foreign CDs
Brad replied to jazzmantom2004's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Wow! I've never seen that set go that high. That's amazing. Stefan is right. -
Not even Fort Knox could hold Lon's collection . Sangrey's and Lon's together must take up a good part of Texas. That's why the state is so big

I've said this before but they have no peers in customer service. They're just the best, in my opinion. I received the Bird box as a present and ruined the box. They then sent other another. Unbelievably, I dropped the box and they sent another one. I couldn't believe it. All, at no cost.
-
It only looks to be available as a JRVG. At current exchange rates, Hiroshi could get it for you for around $21. I'm going to order some stuff from him so if you like I can ask him to throw in a copy and it'll just cost you that plus shipping. Let me know.

It depends. Generally, no. But when you get real masters doing it, like Bird and Brownie, that's a different story. Even then, not in terribly extended doses.

Anybody heard from Ed Swinnich?
Brad replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I heard from Ed recently. He graciously sold me a Dexter cd, "High School" for which I'm much appreciated. Thanks, Ed.
