  1. Yes, feuding. I don’t think he and Nash even talk anymore.
  2. We didn’t have a lot of jazz but a lot of everything else: showtimes (Guys and Dolls, for example), James M. Cohan, classical and Sinatra. Some Herb Alpert too. No Mantovani or Lawrence Welk or that kind of music thank goodness (although when we’d visit my grand mother she’d make me watch LW with her) He bought me a special two lp set of civil war music, the Union and the Confederacy, by Richard Bales and the National Gallery Orchestra. Wore these records out on our Fisher Hi Fi, one of these units that have a turntable and built in speakers.
  3. Sometimes he doesn’t know when to be quiet. He’s feeding with Graham Nash, who had been one of his big supporters.
  4. Historically, Missouri had been considered a Southern state. In the Civil War, it (along with Kentucky and Delaware) was a border state. Nashville, not Memphis, is considered a favorite to add a MLB team if there is future expansion. The 10 runs they gave up against the Cards was more significant than the ones they gave up tonight because that was a deciding game.
  5. At their season ending news conference broadcast today on WFAN, both Cashman and Boone said that the manager makes all the on the field decisions. Cashman insisted it’s been this way ever since Torre was the manager.
  6. I’m of the same mind, having seen them up close and hearing the fans on a daily basis. After being in the same place for many years, sometimes a change is needed, just to bring a fresh perspective. This applies to any organization, not just baseball.
  7. Here’s the link, https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/10/10/coronavirus-denier-sick-spreader/?arc404=true I believe the Post is permitting access for pandemic related stories during the pandemic. Pretty sad story about how this thing can spread.
  8. They are all good players but when it comes to titles it’s still the big three. Thiem only won the US Open because of Djokovick’s stupid mistake. On the other hand the women’s game is wide open, with so much talent. There really is no comparison.
  9. The women’s side is where the exciting tennis is. The men’s is basically the big three.
  10. He’s basically unbeatable on clay, more human everywhere else. Notwithstanding, too many unforced errors by Novak. We’ll see what happens in Melbourne next year.
  11. Many teams operate this way, unfortunately. The problem with the above analysis is that he’d already thrown 94 pitches. How much he had left is debatable. As I may have mentioned, the Rays, who don’t have superstars, play as a team. They get the most out of their talent. The Yankees don’t.
  12. I have a friend — a Red Sox fan — who says that YED (Yankee Elimination Day) is his favorite day of the year after Christmas. When the Yankees lost last night I wished him a Happy YED.
  13. Good idea. Bear Family has it slightly discounted, $218.
  14. Joel Sherman’s article on the future of the Yankees. Yankees’ crossroad filled with difficult decisions
  15. Sounds fascinating. Do you have a recommended place for buying Bear Family records?
  16. By referencing all the championships they’ve won, and how they’re in the hunt every year and so forth. They just can’t avoid the fact that they haven’t been to a WS for 11 years and counting and that for them it was a disappointing season after all the expectations. On the other hand you can chalk it up to being a very unusual year and the SP injuries.
  17. That’s interesting. I can’t say I’m a big fan of the music of that time or of Van Halen but he was a unique talent. Greatest of all time? There is only one. Hendrix. I never saw EVH play but saw Jeff Beck play several times and he did things with the guitar that blew my mind. Not saying he’s the best (after Jimi) but he’s in the conversation, in my opinion.
  18. You’re just trying to put a positive spin on it but there’s no doubt the Rays were the better team because their players, none of whom you could call outstanding, play together as a team. When I look at players like Stanton and Voit, I see a lot of free swingers. Case in point. In game 2 when the Yankees had a chance to win the game in the 9th, Sanchez and Frazier are swinging for the fences where LeMahieu is up there to give a good swing. He’s what I call a professional hitter. As far as calling that pitch against Brosseau a borderline pitch, please stop. Replays showed it was outside.
  19. Bobby Richardson is still around.
  20. Story in the New York Times: Led Zeppelin Wins Long ‘Stairway to Heaven’ Copyright Case
  21. It’s been years since I first listened to this. I’m on my second listen to it today.
