Given that Avatar was better than Scott and Jackson's last couple of flicks, I wouldn't be so sure about that! Regular 3D is good enough for most purposes, but if you don't mind the extra monetary outlay, IMAX will give you a total-immersion experience that's quite nice. I'm kind of tempted to see it again in IMAX, actually, and I don't usually do that. Kinda depends on whether you prefer the larger, but squarer Imax screen or the wider non-Imax 3D screen. Avatar is released in two very different aspect ratios depending on how/where you see it.

Kid's resourceful though. Maybe he should find Bin Laden. -
So far the consensus seems to be that those who've actually seen the movie like/love it while those who don't like it haven't seen it yet.

In light of what's happened since, this thread's title is really funny!

So "Blue Note Records" is one of my Facebook "friends" and this morning I get this status update/message from them: bluenoterecords: Wherever u are 2nite, join us at 7p PT for annmt of 09 USA Fellows, strming LIVE from Santa Monica College PAC. http://tinyurl.com/6rbruu But what the heck does it mean? (I'm kidding, of course, you can figure it out - mostly - from the link provided, but I fear I'm getting too old to understand tweet-speak.)

Spiffy! Looks and works great so far. Good job, Jim!

FYI, there's an amazing deal on a box live Quest stuff (Storyville I think) on emusic.
-
So you liked it then? I still get that feeling - and actually quite a few times recently though not necessarily with jazz. I've been exploring a lot of indie rock/pop bands and have been very pleasantly surprised!

They shot the first (summer) season on the Ren-Mar lot while I was working on Golden Girls. We used to toss a football around with Jerry and his crew during lunch. Seemed a great guy at the time. The show almost wasn't picked up as it wasn't successful at first. It got better... I was tempted to pick up this complete collection yesterday but ultimately passed as I realized that I still have an unopened box set of the first season at home and, though it's heavily syndicated, I don't think I've ever felt the urge to watch the show again since it ceased production. It's a terrific series and I should revisit it again, but I've already got such a backlog of shows and movies to watch that I know this would have just sat on my shelf as well.

Good luck! That's what you get for opening it - it's similar to never asking how a sausage/hot dog is made because you really don't want to know.

Glad I already have the old RCA box - one could go broke buying all these deals!

Yeah, and she apparently "went public" after being upset to learn that she wasn't Tiger's only mistress!
-
Not any better in pop/rock this year. Hell, Hall & Oates are up for a Grammy!

And here I thought Tiger was known for his exceptional driving...

Oh I agree. I just don't know enough about Horo, its owners, or its history to speculate about it. But even if the artists weren't paid beyond their session (or whatever the arrangement was), I don't have a problem with whoever owns the tapes profiting from them. Presumably Sinesio has the original tapes but has refused to do anything with them - which is his right of course. But if he doesn't exploit them, someone else will, legitimately or otherwise - and whether we like it or not. My point was, if Lonehill (or whomever) can obviously make money releasing these, then why can't the legal owner of the tapes (especially if he doesn't pay the original artists either)?
-
Again, we have to refer to this quote -- are they boots? Don't know yet. Maybe Sinesio's reissues are still in the works, and these are just the "fakes" to which he refers. Honestly, it's gonna be hard to have any sympathy for Sinesio if these do turn out to be boots. He's had 25 years to release these on CD and now we're long past the CD reissue boom. I'm also wondering how much more expensive it would be to release these "officially" and not as "boots." Lonehill has the same duplication costs that anyone else might have - and one assumes they're collecting their nut as well - so realistically how much would be due the artists if these were officially released? Additionally, if desired, these could be released officially as mp3s or flac files, further reducing any upfront costs and getting this music back in front of the public again. Otherwise, just give up to the pirates and/or traders - at least someone's making this stuff available again.

Yeah, tape decks are a dime/dozen at most Goodwills. I actually found a $500 (circa 1980) Nakamichi at a thrift store for $15.
-
My thoughts almost exactly!
-
I suppose it will all depend on whether these are needle drops or from the master tapes.
-
I have no problem with them reinventing the concept/character and having it be more fun and action-y - a "contemplative" Holmes feature would die in today's marketplace - but it doesn't look like the "right" reinvention to me. I don't mind Downey in the role, but I've yet to watch a Guy Ritchie film that I've liked.

Hate to encourage Allen, but I thought it was funny.
