Anyone notice the "if." at the beginning of this paragraph. Also it doesn't say it will be bankrupt even in 2096. And the people who get the maximum payout also have to pay in the maximum, which, I believe has just been raised though it should be raised more. As bresna says payments to social security max out after $160,000 income but the but the payouts from Social Security are also capped. And I hate to say that in the US life expectancy has fallen by about 2 years which saves Social Security money. Speaking of which I'd take a bet that social security will be around in 10 years but I probably won't be around to collect.

I've been listening to "The Total Lee Wiley" on Spotify. I thought I had a lot of Lee Wiley cds (6or7) but this has many things I've never heard before and I'm loving it.

A couple of years ago he played a fundraiser for local firemen. For most of his the set he and his band played music from a new album and I was surprised that the one oldie he did was Neil Young's "Ohio" which he did with great vigor. I've been planning to buy tickets for a concert he had scheduled at a local small theater. (The opener was going to be Bruce Cockburn. ) Glad I was able to see him when I did.

The recent film RRR has an intermission.

The Searchers has one scene in the snow. IIRC they went to Canada to shoot it. (As I write that it seems unlikely.)

Well I don't think he's in the same class as Jimmy Rushing or Ray Charles but as a ballad singer he's up there with the best.

I once saw him sing "Georgie Rose" . (IIRC He was backed by the Clayton-Hamilton band. ) I I'd never heard the song before and it was wonderful. Unfortunately I don't think he ever recorded it. I do love the nightclub recording with Ben Webster. I've been planning to post about my many heretical opinions about jazz and one of them was going to be "Joe Williams sings ballads better than he sings the blues."

I found it a bit disappointing and probably wouldn't have recognized it as an Evans chart. However it also has a song by Evans: "Again and Again", which I'd never head of and which is terrific. The arrangement is credited to someone else, but Ryan Trusedell of the Gil Evans Project told me he's pretty sure Evans did it. (IIRC he also said they had recorded it but not released it yet.) Back when I was younger (70 or so) I was able to digitize those 2 cuts so I don't need this Lp, but I no longer have the capabilities to digitize it. If either of you is willing to make a copy for the other, I'm happy to donate it to the cause. BTW The liner notes to the Lp are very strange. Supposedly a woman "Mary Morse, Rutgers University" writing to her husband who is away for a week. She bought the record and writes about how great Butterfield is, but "his trumpet could never be compared to the power mower you play".

Met him when he was in a film I worked on. Didn't realize how popular he was until after a grueling day members of the crew began thanking me for for privilege of being on a set while he played. (Actually what's in the film was pre-recorded but the group would jam between set-ups. Other musicians were Terry Bozzio-drums, Tony Hymas-keyboards, Jill Avery-bass and the late/great Nicolette Larson-vocals.) . I did see the Yardbirds at the Marquee Club in 1964 but that was when Clapton was still with them. I went thinking it was a jazz group because of their name. (I'd been seeing jazz groups there.)

I was wrong (I often am)-- I don't have the entire concert just the "modern" versions of the songs. Is there a source for the traditionalist versions?

There are a couple of cd releases and Bravo broadcast an hour tv show taken from it so there's probably some videos around. (I taped it at the time then made a DVD from the tape so it looks pretty awful.)

The other songs are: Sweet Lorraine (which they call Struttin...), On the Sunny Side of the Street, Dippermouth Blues, Loveless Love, Monday Date, and Squeeze Me. And yes, the Impulse sides are terrific.

Eight of the cuts are from a George Wien Newport Allstars that was originally on Impulse. I can't pin down the other six, one of which is mis-titled (It's Sweet Lorraine and they call it Strutting with sound Barbecue.) Also doesn't sound like Pee Wee on them. I've tried to sort it out using Lord but to no avail. Help!!

I no longer have any Lps but I think I have as many EKE cds and box sets as you do. Not sure whether I'm bragging or complaining.
