  1. Showboat? (Though not ones played that often by jazz musicians.)
  2. Spaceballs is one of my favorite stupid movies (high praise from me). I still LOL at some of the lines: "Yogurt! I HATE yogurt!" "I'm a mog - half-man and half-dog. I'm my own best friend." "What's the combination? OK, I'll tell you: 1.......2.......3.......4.......5." Rick Moranis said that at one time they were planning to do a sequel called "Spaceballs III: the Search for Spaceballs II".
  3. Thanks. I found the Ornette film on YouTube also.
  4. Most of us have outlived Jimmy Blanton and Charlie Christian. A lot of us have outlived Bird. In fact of the jazz musicians I most admire the only ones I haven't outlived are Benny Carter, Ornette Coleman and Sonny Rollins. And of the the first generation of rock and rollers we still have Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis.
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m4xkY0WgVw#t=736 Am I the only one who had never heard of this great 1967 short film? (Can't find the YouTube thread or I'd post this there.)
  6. Happy B'day and many more!
  7. It's available from ITunes under the title "Capital Vault Series". (At least I think they're the same.)
  8. Congrats to both of you. (Especially to Ann for putting up with Chuck.)
  9. Anyone else notice that although the notes say that Sweet ad Lovely (12/4/47) is by Dexter Gordon the discography indicates it's by Teddy Edwards.

  11. I've been playing this a lot. Love it.
  12. That's explained in post 30 but I'm curious about the thanks to Bill T Jones and Jac Holzman. BTW Record is really good.
  13. stan hasselgard "be-bop king of sweden" with chuck wayne and max Roach? rest must be gene di novi and clyde lombardi. must be from September 1948. Keep boppin´ marcel and another one: Thanks. That's impressive that you figured it out.
  14. On page 19 of the booklet there's a photo of Bird in front of a 3 Deuces sign advertising" King of S........Sta(n?) .......Ssel Quintet." Bird is blocking the rest of the sign. Who was playing there? (Booklet says the photo is from 1950.)
  15. From Jazz on a Summer's Day? Ahhh. The Sound of Jazz. Monk later complained about Count Basie staring at him.
  16. From Jazz on a Summer's Day?
  17. I hear it's pretty good.
  18. And many more.....
  19. Saw the Spiegleman show at the AGO today. I was very interested after having seen his great lecture with music entitled "Wordless" in Santa Barbara. Problem was that I went to the Alex Colville show at the AGO first and that knocked me out so much it was hard to look at anything else after. (I skipped a Michelangelo exhibit they had in favour of the Colville and the Spiegleman.)
  20. Well hey - I was placing the order for "Jim" and the card is for "James". Problem solved, order placed, confirmation email received. YAY-HOO! Good catch. My card uses my middle initial which was not on my billing address. Added the initial and it seems to have gone through. Aand as I'm typing this I got an e-mail confirming the order.
  21. I had the same experience but didn't hit it twice. I'll check in a few days and see if my credit card has been charged. BTW didn't notice earlier un this thread anyone mentioning that it's avaialbe as a cd. Costs less than the flac even with expensive shipping. And what does it mean when it says you can buy a studio master?
  22. I bought it as a download-- I need instant gratification-- but can't figure out where the download button they refer to is. (Thought I'd post this here as well as on the website in case Jim reads it here first. )

    Bob Dylan corner

The notes say that Million Dollar Bash is one of only two instances where Dylan play harmonica. What's the other one? The 2nd take?
  24. Anybody yet compare the sound to that of The Savoy and Dial box set?
