  1. But according to this article he's not on the Lp either.
  2. So the incorrect information is actually embedded in the disc? Wow.
  3. Ok so they made a mistake on both the outside and the insert of the double disc cd. Empty Hearted is not the 13th cut on disc one-- it's the 20th, so every cut between those two numbers is incorrectly listed. However when I insert the disc into my computer, iTunes lists the cuts the same way as the package. Is that because the discs are entered into the data base manually?
  4. HAPPY B'DAY AND MANY MORE!!!
  5. Someone mentioned it early on, but no one really commented on it. They're available for download on the Concord site. Worth getting for Brother Ray.
  6. She accompanies Lady Day (on piano) on the Stars of Jazz tv clip that was released a few years ago. And she's married to Mike Stoller.
  7. Here's where I found the first three shows http://archive.org/details/JubileeOldTimeRadio
  8. I've listened to most of these. Some of them are great (some not so great-- especially the later ones). The first one features Duke Ellington and I thought I got it from this site, but I guess not. I'd love to find those between 1 and 37 somewhere. Some look like they'd be really interesting. Each program is discussed here: http://home.swipnet.se/dooji/jubilee.htm
  9. No one here seems to have mentioned the Ray Charles-Cleo Lane version.
  10. Has anyone here (maybe everybody) heard the Uptown Hawkins cd from Jamestown in 1958? I came across it when looking for their new Prez cd. Should I add it to the shelf of Bean recordings I already own? I like his work from the early '60s. How does this compare?
  11. Are those other broadcasts available on cd?
  12. Classical, pop swing, Jobim (they've long liked Jobim and I'm getting them to listen to a lot of Brazilian stuff, and they're liking it). So they might like Prez. Hang in there. You're obviously fighting the good fight.
  13. Doesn't seem available from Uptown yet either--or am I just not seeing it.
  14. Well I'm definitely aging. Soo much so that I'm too old to have ever been a mod.
  15. Do blogs count as "in print"? Didn't know where else to post this. Anyway, I highly recommend this blog: http://thebluemoment.com/ Richard Williams is one of my favorite writers on music. (He also writes about sports but I don't read that.) Looks like he's retired from newspapers but has taken to the web.
  16. I've eaten on both Stake n Shake and 5 Guys once each. Probably won't repeat the experience. In 'n Out on the other hand......
  17. I've though about it a lot. Can't figure out what to do. My son would probably be willing to take everything but has no place to keep it.
  18. I once saw him play acoustic stand up bass with the Mike Gibbs band. Sorry i have no pictures.
  19. Saw Maria Muldaur at a vineyard on Saturday afternoon. Sponsored by a local blues society and she is indeed a blues singer. Has a new cd out dedicated to Memphis Minnie. Good stuff. Makes me want to liten to the originals.
  20. The Miles Davis Quintet with JJ Johnson.
  21. He used to conduct the orchestra for film composer James Newton Howard. I joked with him at one session about how much his old albums were going for in collectors' circles. He said he didn't have many of them himself.
  22. Haps Paps! (Thought I said this last year, but I don't see it in this thread.) And many more!
  23. You forgot about Lenin and the dadaist movement ... that one's actually real (well, maybe ... Hugo Ball writes about the balalaika orchestra playing at Cabaret Voltaire and some weird Russian-looking chap visiting). Tom Stoppard wrote a great play, "Travesties", about Joyce, Lenin and Tristan Tsara (sp?) all being in Zurich at the same time.
