  1. I thin also Ibrahim's African Herbs.
  2. I preordered from Amazon in November, and even with my prime membership it still hasn't shipped! I don't get it. Mine arrived today from Amazon.
  3. The Water is Wide
  4. Fillmmaker Terry Zweigoff who's got a 78 collection rivaling R. Crumb's told me he's been digitizing some of his records for Amoeba. I didn't quit understand what he meant until I read this.
  5. And the Mole Jazz Lp "The Rest of Gil Evans Live at Royal Festival Hall". I did a needle drop digitization of the two and put the results together on one cd with the numbers in the right order but I'd love to have an official cd with better sound. It was a great concert.
  6. Remember even according to the new EU regulations anything recorded and first released prior to late 1961 remains in the P.D. in Europe and even by U.S. standards anything recorded prior to early 1943 (currently) is P.D. in the U.S. (70 years!). And even a 1943 cutoff date covers quite a lot of those "Chronogical" platters. In short, most of the swing era definitely has gone P.D. by now. I thought the US copyright was now for 90 years but before I posted this I Googled US Copyright Laws for recordings but this website: http://www.pdinfo.com/Copyright-Law/Public-Domain-Sound-Recordings.php claims that no US recordings will become PD before 2067!
  7. I'm Your Man: The Life of Leonard Cohen. A good and well written biography but may be more than you want to know about Leonard Cohen. Gets most of the details right but not very good on Canadian geography. (Where have all the editors gone.)
  8. Alice Munro's "Dear Life". Probably the last book by the best writer in the English language, and one of her best. (How's that for hyperbole?)
  9. http://franklivewire.wordpress.com/2013/01/14/please-help-legendary-musician-julian-priester-his-family/
  10. You're right. I was confused. The book I have is My Life in E-Flat. There is also a long interview by Will Thornbury that was published in book form. It appears to be the first of a series entitled Conversations in Jazz but I'm not sure any others were published.
  11. Sounds like the two are the same book with different titles.
  12. http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/clifford-brown-and-max-roach-quintet/concerts/newport-jazz-festival-july-16-1955.html
  13. Wolfgang's Vault just released it. Has it been available before?
  14. The Freewheeling outtakes are pretty interesting. I think they're planning to release some of them on a new "bootleg" release.
  15. I've liked some of Balliet's writings but I'm always leery of reviewers who praise someone by putting down someone else who's not even the subject of the review. I imagine the artists being put down as seeing themselves as the victims of a random drive-by shooting.
  16. I wonder if they'll do this with Miles? They've already emulated Dylan with the "bootleg series".
  17. HAPPY B'DAY!! and many more.
  18. Bon voyage! I recommend the Acme Oyster bar in the quarter.
  19. Has the music from Shadows ever been released before? Are these actually the ones used in the film?
  20. Me too--I'm really looking forward to this set! gregmo Ditto!
  21. Maybe it's my mood, but I agree with your son.
  22. I dunno. A friend of mine opened for him at The Hollywood Bowl a year or so ago so I went to see her and the place was pretty full.
  23. http://www.wnyc.org/blogs/neh-preservation-project/2012/oct/03/benny-goodman/#.UNY0_1DH1KQ.facebook According to the excellent "Solo Flight" web site some of the numbers here with Christian solos have never been released.
  24. Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker, Gene Krupa?
  25. If'd known aobut it I would have. Sound is very good. And why am I writing in italics?
