Agreed. Bill Evans' Peace Piece rates highly, too...
And the song on which it's based: Bernstein's Some Other Time. Evans uses the same opening chords on Flamenco Sketches.
Ok so they made a mistake on both the outside and the insert of the double disc cd. Empty Hearted is not the 13th cut on disc one-- it's the 20th, so every cut between those two numbers is incorrectly listed. However when I insert the disc into my computer, iTunes lists the cuts the same way as the package. Is that because the discs are entered into the data base manually?
I've listened to most of these. Some of them are great (some not so great-- especially the later ones). The first one features Duke Ellington and I thought I got it from this site, but I guess not. I'd love to find those between 1 and 37 somewhere. Some look like they'd be really interesting. Each program is discussed here: http://home.swipnet.se/dooji/jubilee.htm
Has anyone here (maybe everybody) heard the Uptown Hawkins cd from Jamestown in 1958? I came across it when looking for their new Prez cd. Should I add it to the shelf of Bean recordings I already own? I like his work from the early '60s. How does this compare?
Classical, pop swing, Jobim (they've long liked Jobim and I'm getting them to listen to a lot of Brazilian stuff, and they're liking it). So they might like Prez. Hang in there. You're obviously fighting the good fight.
Do blogs count as "in print"? Didn't know where else to post this. Anyway, I highly recommend this blog: http://thebluemoment.com/ Richard Williams is one of my favorite writers on music. (He also writes about sports but I don't read that.) Looks like he's retired from newspapers but has taken to the web.
Saw Maria Muldaur at a vineyard on Saturday afternoon. Sponsored by a local blues society and she is indeed a blues singer. Has a new cd out dedicated to Memphis Minnie. Good stuff. Makes me want to liten to the originals.
