That pretty much sums it up for me too. I don't have anything like Jeff's knowledge or even a discography but get real tactlie and aural pleasure from hearing the music as it was issued, touched by it's history and wondering who bought it first and where.
not sure what side your album contains by Johnson/Turner but I picked up this 78 yesterday
Pete Johnson & Boogie Woogie Boys- Cherry Red /Baby Look at You ( Parlophone) R2717, nice boogie woogie /early R&B side.
also
Earl Hines and his Orchestra Piano Man/ Father Steps (Bluebird) B 10377 -nice pair, very good sound on this one
wonderful set but then again so many of these 2LP sets from Miles were great. The level of consistency is very impressive 1969-1975.
Been looking out for a nice copy of this. I love Crown of Creation and this is the next logical step ( backwards or is its forwards...)
I'm up for this kind of thread again. Time was when the Funny Rat thread was my main haunt but it became way too bloated when if you lost track of where you'd got to. Perhaps this thread really is a sub thread to "what music are you spinning now" in which posters only ever live in the now ( or a least just a couple of pages back).
Good to hear. My set has apparently reached the PO but those f**tards at Royal Mail are charging me £12 import duty of which £8 is a 'handling charge'. Sadly, as a result of this I'll probably look at ordering future sets from that Jazz Messengers place in Barcelona. They seem to have most of the Mosaics in stock and there's no BS on imports.
Never thought I'd see the day that Royal Mail was as bad as Canada Post but that day has arrived !
I paid the £12 for the first time in a long time. I've not heard of the Jazz Messengers outfit, interesting.
Mine arrived yesterday , listened to Discs 1-3 , great sound and performances. Discs 1 and 2 sound way better than I recall from my LP of the Town Hall set
Bobby Bradford, Frode Gjerstad, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, Paal Nilssen-Love - Kampen (No Business)
excellent release , apparently it's selling fast and nearly sold out
listening to this mellow session again. It's really not bad, it's certainly polite with touches of muscular flute playing and even bounce to most of the arrangements. Doesn't sound like a typical Quincy Jones date to my untutored ears. This is available on Catalan CD imprint combined with another Elliott session. Anyone else heard this ?
Narada Burton Greene- Live at Kerrytown House ( No Business) better than excellent solo piano set , 2LP and the music never tires. Bebopish and free - highly recommended despite the cost.
Don Elliott- A Musical Offering (HMV) mint UK pressing of this hardly revolutionary session arranged by Quincy Jones. Pleasant Sunday morning chamber jazz with a west coast vibe. Quite nice but not worth big money.
