  5. No, it's not the biggest deal, but in post #57 above I stated what I thought the disadvantages of duplicates threads were and what the advantages of not having duplicates threads were. So what might be the advantages of duplicate threads? I'm willing to listen. As for the the spinster school marm thing, while the situations may not be quite parallel, I recall an ill-fated college course I took in Homeric Greek, which was taught by one of the world's chief experts on the subject. Our first task was to memorize the 24-letter Greek alphabet, from Alpha to Omicron. Something of a child of the 1960s, or perhaps just a lazy schmuck, I failed to do this by the second day of class, as was the case for a good many others. When the teacher realized this, he pointed out that until we knew the alphabet we would be greatly handicapped in looking up anything in the Greek-to-English side of our Greek-English dictionaries, and that as novices we would be looking up things there a whole lot. Errr... The Greek alphabet runs from alpha to omega: was this at the Dorothy Parker Helenic Academy
  6. I've just received a copy of Byard's Documentation/The End of the Decade- on CD. CD tray liner and booklet look very crude , the CD has printed paper label ( image of BL). Anyone else have this CD , is it legit. ??? It has a very bootleg like quality to it , I can't tell is the disc is a CDR , it's slightly greener in colour.
  7. Agreed , this and Hancock's BN debut Takin' Off sound great in their Cisco editions
  8. I had a similar problem once and it turned out that the stylus had rotated slightly. Lead to some tracking problems which sounded quite like those described in the first post. I had to replace my cartridge.
  9. Archie Shepp/Horace Parlan- Goin' home - (Steeplechase)
  10. I have a 78 of this , isn't it Rollin's first session ?
  11. Gil Evans - Svengali-(Quadradisc) a 4 channel disc but sounds awesome in stereo Mose Allison - Mose Alive ! - (Atlantic) stereo, nice set by Mose but not Wally Heider's best recording,
  12. Paul Bley - Tears - (Owl) 1983, fine solo set
  13. From recent record fair Harold Vick - Caribbean Suite- (RCA)- features Booby Hutcherson, Blue Mitchell, value at £3 I thought. also got three Tyner Milestones, a Bley solo on Owl and for the same price. Good value for these parts
  14. Once a messenger always a messenger... On topic, this is Jim's place, please just accept his rules.
  15. then some light weight listening with these two picked up cheaply yesterday. The Kessel's decent enough the Ponder has it's moments but comes across as lift music at first listen.
  16. Graf is on Chet's Big Band set on Pacific, any thing else ?
  17. Willie Smith- Alto Saxophonist Supreme ! - ( London) - 2 dates from August '65, sidemen include Bill Perkins, Jimmy Rowles

  19. Odean Pope - Moers
  20. very fine record indeed.
  21. I listened to a few LF titles at my local store and found the music fairly wooden. It was pleasant enough but sounded highly arranged. I don't recall which titles, they had a whole run of 78s all in near mint condition. I bought a Wilbur Sweatman disc instead.
  22. my reissue looks like this
  23. Paul Jeffrey- Family (Mainstream) , pretty strong set of tunes well played , perhaps needed a bit of extra rehearsal as ensemble passages a bit ragged but it's a good date and a better recorded than many Mainstreams I've heard
  24. Not a helpful policy but I wonder how important the samples are in influencing a purchase. The committed could look for them elsewhere but I suppose those with only a passing interest might not bother.
  25. hmmm.... these sound nice especially the Dodo
