from my usual source today only one 78 I got a date with rhythm DeLuxe All star band featuring Billy Eckstein (sic), Dizzy , Freddie Webster and Wardell Gray also are heard. flip side I couldn't hear nobody pray The four blues- (Spiritual Quartet) DeLuxe 1003- The spiritual is nice but sounds as if it was recorded underwater. The Eckstine track is a blast- can't find this in Dizzy's discography.

In anticipation of receiving my copy of Vonski Speaks I've been spinning Serenade & Blues this evening ( and Have no fear earlier on today in the car). Two epic sets, that I have never tired of hearing. Cliched though it is , there is always some new twist to hear on the these magnificent sets. I'm really struck how well John Young works with Von, are there any other sessions available with these two together. ?

I'm looking forward to receiving my copy and listening for the tweaks. I wonder if there is a photo of Chuck tweaking ?

I am surprised to see complaints regarding the recent Armstrong set, I've no trouble with the sound at all, thought it sounded great on my system. I probably won't be going for the Shaw having enough of his material on various Hep releases and the 5CD Portrait set on RCA.

Little Richard Tutti Frutti/ Long tall Sally - London UK - Richard's first two singles on one disc- fine stuff

Whilst a CT or MRI does sound indicated it would be worth checking to see if pertussis serology has been performed. Whooping cough (pertussis) is a common cause of very prolonged cough ( up to 12-14 weeks). It can occur even if you've been immunised or indeed had the illness as a child already. The down side is that serology is slightly unreliable with false negatives occurring. Basic biochemistry and haematological bloods would also be recommended. Cause of your cough does not sound sinister but clearly needs to be checked out given how long its been going on. These things can be a real drag but you will get better.

Wow - that sounds obscure ! I guess it must be, curiously it states that its a A Record Supervision Production and therefore I wondered if it might have been a Lansdowne recording. But Lansdowne were on Columbia and Piccadilly was part of Pye. Any rate, this new slice of Shake set me listening to my Joe Harriot Cds and then to the wonderful Gearbox EP just released and mentioned a few pages back. Gearbox records.

Shake Keane Fivetet - 1962 (Piccadilly ) fairly battered 45rpm 7 incher. 2 slightly Caribean sounding tracks - The Nursery Blues and Ruanda, no Joe Harriott but some nice celeste and Cedric West's guitar.

still spinning this , it's really good and the sound is superb, slightly more mainstream compared to Freeform and Abstract, I've ordered the Tubby session too, given its limited edition status I guess if I wait for a review it won't be available

Joe Harriott - Jazz for moderns ( Gearbox) ex BBC 1962 - heavy vinyl sounding very good. Anyone have their Tubby Hayes release ? edit to add that this a 45 rpm 12 inch with 4 tracks, about 12 minutes in total but with the classic line up of Harriott and Shake Keane

the sound of the Sugden is really exceptional in my view, very detailed, excellent timing and soundstage, my Living Voice speakers (around £4k) really sing. Running hot means it has to be carefully placed with plenty of space to allow air to circulate.

My Sugden A21a integrated amp is Class A with 25watts output, runs hot and is really excellent , I've had mine 5 years ( it's a series 1 version), its been upgraded in the last 2 years but it's an ancient design with its origins in the late 1960s. Made in Yorkshire UK. If someone has it available near you well worth a listen. The current series 2 is more powerful and has a remote controller. Series 1 version (mine ) pictured. John Lewis - P.O.V. Columbia - 3rd streamish , mellow but with a little bite, good set

Recently I got Chris Craft Atlantic, very cheaply and was very impressed, perhaps even more so by 2Cd Chris Connor sings the George Gershwin almanac of song. What a talent just great singing right up there with Anita O'day in my book. I must get her self-titled Atlantic debut next. I have avoided jazz singers like her for years which is only my loss, wonderful musician.

Sonny Rollins - Freedom Suite- Riverside Interdisc , Rollins' best period 1957/8 ?

a double helping I've no doubt, but BA is cool in my book

Postal strike wouldn't have anything to do with it, would it? MG still waiting, I am getting convinced that this one is lost/delayed in transit. I'll give it a few more days before troubling the "new Cindy" (aka Fred)

Happy Birthday !!!!

The sound quality of Saga is also much better. I've not listened to these sessions for ages but I was underwhelmed by them. Expectations were not met which is always a pity. I'll stick to Saga I think but must revisit the Rosco track mentioned above.

Get a Mac. I've just upgraded to Snow Leopard without any issues. The machine is faster in all ways and hard drive space has been freed up ( approx 10Gb). My PC runs XP , it's little used now but works well enough, i just prefer life with Mac OS -
Very good disc, surprisingly that it's little mentioned. I guess most fans gravitate to his 60s Blue Notes

I managed to see him perform many years ago as part of a Billy Bang group with Frank Lowe in the late eighties. A sublime gig which drew me to jazz .RIP

I think that one was reissued on a twofer LP on Impulse, coupled with a Sonny Criss (his Peacock LP?). Can't remember the title of the twofer. MG Somewhere I have the 2LP ( Bop-masters ?) set you mention. It was part of a long numbered series of Impulse reissues. Sound is no better than the CD issue.

Well I'm still waiting on my John Patton set from Mosaic, sent " surface" 16/9/09. Not had to wait this long for years. Worryingly the other Selects I got at last gasp arrived within 10 days of ordering. Fingers crossed.
