  1. He shoots, he scores. In the case of Bill Evans, wouldn't it be "He scores, he shoots"?
  2. Really. They need to create some kind of playoff system. Seriously, it's about "bu$ine$$" & "the indu$try" first, and "mu$ic" about third or fourth.
  3. Someone's singin' a different tune now! Well all right then!
  4. Yes, "Ethel" nailed it, but where were the drummer and bass player hiding? Under the stairs? I always thought they seemed out of place in that farmhouse- they were city people. Of course I also never really understood why Ricky Ricardo spent so much time hanging out with Fred. But Ethel apparently was shedding all that time. And Edie Adams, hommina-hommina-hommina!!
  5. He might just be burned out on running the show. It's a lot of MF work. He probably just wants to focus on fewer things, like playing, teaching & family. I half expected Paul Ferguson to take over the CJO.
  6. Is Jack Schantz stepping down? I think Sean would do a great job.
  7. Just came today from Daedalus. "The Completely Mad Don Martin" - all his Mad magazine strips from 1956-1988. A hefty two volume set for cheap! Highly intellectual fare!
  8. Sorry Tom, I had read this and meant to reply sooner but have been slammed with end-of-the-semester stuff at school. I knew and played with Sean when I was living in the Cleveland area around 2000 or so. At that point he was a great player with much promise of more to come, and also a really nice guy. I've heard his CDs and have to say that there are great and less than great moments. His playing is excellent throughout but the music is a little inconsistent (some of the tunes with synth are not really to my taste, and stylistically out of context (IMO) with the other tunes). That said, I think there is much more great music to come from this talented musician. He's a MF on the trumpet. Both lead and solo chops.
  9. Or Saint Patrick's Day, or Cinco De Mayo, or Secretary's Day, or Bosses' Day or any other day made up by either the alcohol or the greeting card industry. Don't forget Talk Like A Pirate Day!
  10. LOL - Humorous oddities - that's why I like live chatting with youse guys! Did you find the secret message?
  11. Beautiful! Understand, though, that humorous oddities lure Erik.
  12. Pats lookin' tough so far! Watch out Saints! Saints have GOT to put pressure on Brady tonight.
  13. I'd hate to be that thirteenth guy right now.
  14. Agg = Deliberately Initiating Controversial taKtics.
  15. Sure hope the NO/NE game lives up to the hype. Geaux Saints! We'll see if they're for real tonight.
  16. Bowden to announce retirement on Tuesday It was time to leave, but it was handled a little awkwardly by the administration IMO.
  17. I think Conn, Agg, Noj, Brooks, and I use it the most (did I miss anyone?) and we haven't been on much lately. What do you guys think? Want to pool some money for Jim or let it go? I for one wouldn't mind keeping it around a bit longer, but only if we can do so without any inconvenience to Jim. I'm due for a board donation anyway.
  18. Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?
  19. ....and suddenly we move to the political arena! Yippee!
  20. Just a quick plug for an old friend: Ryan Shultz (note the correct spelling has no 'c') is an absolute monster musician: strong chops, complete command of modern harmony, loose phrasing that's more saxophone derived than anything else and really fresh post-bop ideas. My apologies, Mark- I fixed the spelling on my post. "complete command of modern harmony"- that's quite an accomplishment! Agreed that he's a monster- any recommended recordings that he's on? I believe this was the trombone section in several jazz bands I've adjudicated over the years.
  21. I think it just implies the trombone-size bore (and resultant tone quality). Although there IS a slide trumpet (see Steve Bernstein).
  22. Chuck? What have you done with Paul?
  23. Is this the same as a bass trumpet? Check out Cy Touff and current Chicago musician Ryan Shultz.
