  1. A nice remembrance of George Russell by Bob Brookmeyer
  2. Finally, clear skies! Grilled chicken, asparagus & corn, accompanied by gin & tonic(s) and the just-arrived HRS sessions. Not a bad end to the day IIMSSM. EDIT: BTW, grilled corn dressed w/butter and parmesan is quite tasty.
  3. Another late-period recording that I really like is the Live in Tokyo twofer.
  4. This is one of my favorite Sco sides. I love the vibe of the thing- the timbre of the nylon string guitar, Wayne's contributions and the great arranging which is (as you said) very much in the Gil Evans style. I can imagine this one is probably not everyone's cup o'tea, but I like it a lot. I also like the others mentioned here- each new Sco side seems so different from the previous. He rarely fails to keep me interested.
  5. ......and again today! Happy Birthday! Aren't you glad it's not 2006? I sure am.
  6. Happy Birthday and many more!
  7. I have played the circus many times and have to say it is truly a gig from hell! Yes, it was a gig that helped to pay the bills, but there wasn't much that was fun about it. Pretty much nonstop playing with barely enough time to turn pages. The worst thing is that after playing like 10 shows over the course of a week the music sticks in your head. Once I was a little too close to an elephant that apparently had some kind of explosive diarrhea. It wasn't pretty. The circus is one of those gigs that seems to always come at a time when you need the money, but it is also one of those gigs you hope you don't have to do too many times in your lifetime. Much more fun to go as a spectator. Plus, clowns are kind of creepy.
  8. Bob Cummings Alan Shorter Dr. Ruth
  9. I ordered a bunch of Chemex filters fom Amazon (they came in boxes of 100), not too expensive. Regular paper coffee filters don't quite fit, which is too bad.
  10. The Mosaic Triangle!
  11. Wes! How the hell are ya? Still keeping our border safe? We miss you around here. You miss me? Yeah, whatever. Of course we miss you. Sheesh! But we'll try to aim more carefully in the future.
  12. Wes! How the hell are ya? Still keeping our border safe? We miss you around here.
  13. After a lifetime of disappointment with various machines I've given up and now boil the water in an electric kettle and pour it through a Chemex carafe (I also use my French press, which does a great job as well). I transfer the coffee to an insulated carafe that I've warmed up with some hot water. Well worth the extra effort. I can finally make a good cup of coffee. Also, I have found that my Costco carries some excellent whole beans.
  14. Great news, Shawn! Sometimes when you get a contract situation like that if you distinguish yourself you wind up getting a permanent position. GOOD LUCK!!! Yeah Shawn, CONGRATS! I hope this works out for you, I know you've been down a rough road lately. Good luck.
  15. Sensurround®!
  16. Hot. Humid. Rain every day. Waaaaah.
  17. Harry Blackstone Joe Segal Steven Seagal
  18. You guys do realize this thread is five years old? Not to say that Billy May doesn't deserve ongoing appreciation, of course.
  19. I had some of those once. I believe it was prior to a Weather Report concert circa 1980. Can't say fer sure. :eye:
  20. I'm partial to this one.
  21. I've just been listening to some GR- I've been a fan of his music for a long time. One favorite is his composition All About Rosie (recorded by the Gerry Mulligan CJB). Anyone spend any time with his Lydian Chromatic Concept materials? I would love to have taken a music theory course from him. Very sorry to hear he passed. What great music he left for us to enjoy! RIP
  22. No problem. I understand that this kind of thread is considered by many to be a waste of space, but I have to say it's also an act of kindness that kind of made my day. It's nice to feel appreciated in a community of which I have been a part for so long. So thank you, Jim for the thought.
