  1. Tube, a French faux ami for hit, was already in use in the late '50s. Henri Salvador had a minor hit with 'Le Tube' which was written for him by his very good friend Boris Vian back in 1957.
  2. Hopefully Mosaic will do a Boswell Sisters box! We can always dream! Their recorded output is spread on too many hard to get releases. Time to have their renditions presented the way it should!
  3. Chico Hamilton Trio (Liberty Japan) The Japanese Toshiba/UA reissue of the PJ album with Jim Hall, Howard Roberts, George Duvivier!
  4. I have no problem with most vinyls. Before they are spinned they are cleaned from whatever dust may lie on the grooves with a Statibrush II brush. Have used it for years and it still does its work perfectly. The stylus gets a quick visit regularly from the Statibrush.

  11. chewy, when you'll have digested all you've learned here it will be time to explore the music of Duke Ellington. It's a new Continent out there! Many of the ducal broadcasts heve been reissued in the Duke Ellington Transcription Shows series D.E.T.S. Most of them were broadcast near the end of WWII. Duke's appeals to buy more war bonds are something else!

  17. Art Blakey's 'Big Band' date on Bethlehem! Also any Slide Hampton sessions from the late '50s/early '60s. Not a big band as far as to the numbers of musicians on hand but sure sounded like BIG!
  18. When I started getting interested in jazz in the early '50s there still was smoke rising from the war between partisans and opponents to the titles from that session. Albert Ayler's 'Bells' stirred even more controversy than 'Spiritual Unity' when it came out, from what I remember. There was hate against that music then!
