  1. No clue at all. But really looking forward to it.
  2. Finally! A thousand
  3. Yes, except for the ridiculous assertion about California's Insurance Exchange I'd dissect this comment in great detail but that would really tip it into politics.
  4. Tonight and Saturday night at the Arts Garage. http://artsgarage.org/event/jazz-project-dr-lonnie-smith/ Got seats reserved for Saturday night for me and the missus. We not only get to see the good doctor, a first for me, but also we're only a ten minute drive away. And Calvin Newborn plays January 11; Randy Brecker on the 25th. I don't think I can make Brecker's gig but would like to see Newborn for sure.
  5. Odes to Obama are supposed to be in the Politics Forum. Oh that's right, it doesn't exist anymore.
  6. I'll be smiling when I get in the car to drive home and hear him wail on "Blowin' The Blues Away"! Hang in there Mr. Silver. Seriously, that Wolfgang's concert I linked to is fantastic, well worth it for the monthly membership to download and burn.
  7. Expecting something doesn't make it easier to accept when it happens. This really, really sucks. I am remembering Horace with this concert from Wolfgang's - a great show including a cooking version of Me and My Baby, when it was quite fresh in the repertoire. http://www.concertvault.com/horace-silver-quintet/newport-jazz-festival-july-02-1960.html
  8. Mostly done, pending a lot of deliveries yet to come. And a special shout-out to Shawn for posting on FB about FoxConnect, the WORST internet-based retailer in the world. $6 for tv-series season DVDs sounds like a great deal but only if they can fulfill it. I gave them over a week and with no shipping notification spent an hour on hold to be told it will 'ship early next week'. That would have been seven days ago. Its now 19 days and counting since my order was placed and God only knows when or if it will ever be shipped. The only saving grace is the fact that the Gould-family gift exchange won't take place until late January when everyone gathers at Mom's new house in Naples, Florida. And, with my wife's birthday coming up in January, I've been ordering for that too, so I can cover up for their incompetence by giving birthday gifts at Christmas. I don't have the hard & fast deadline of December 24 for delivery from this POS company that most people do. I can only imagine how others are feeling about them.
  9. I was thinking the exact same thing.
  10. I can't be 100% because I can't find the original thread but I am almost sure it wasn't Chinen who wrote that. The writer was some young female. The real blame for that whopper was on the editorial side.
  11. Anyone else aware of this show? http://southfloridajazz.org/cms.php?id=156 It's the first concert down here in forever that I've been aware of and was motivated to get tickets. Really looking forward to seeing both of these guys. If anyone else is going or decides to attend, PM me and we can meet up.
  12. Who am I? He looked like this last year: He ain't Kung Fu Panda anymore. And usually you don't hear about Best Shape of My Life until training camp opens, or at least January.
  13. (Hang in there, maybe the Yankees will be competitive again ... some day. )
  14. Hall of Fame Veterans committee announcement at 10 AM today, with the following on the ballot Dave Concepcion Bobby Cox Steve Garvey Tommy John Tony La Russa Billy Martin Marvin Miller Dave Parker Dan Quisenberry Ted Simmons George Steinbrenner Joe Torre Who you got? I am guessing Torre and Cox, would love to see Quis go in and will hate to see LaRussa go, just because I hate his guts.
  15. Interesting find in that blog that was referenced in the Clarence Sharpe thread: http://crownpropeller.wordpress.com/2011/01/20/blue-jazz-and-yellow-blues-cawthron-and-allegro-records/ Scroll down and you can hear what is apparently Grant Green's first recording, on the Cawthron label, an early version of Space Flight which was recorded later for Argo. I think this was referenced in the Barbarian liners but I can't be sure and don't have them in front of me. Anyway, pretty cool, and it looks to be as rare as hen's teeth.
  16. Who the fuck cares? I want to hear a disco-fied version of the Kenny Rogers hit "Lucille" You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille With four hungry children and a crop in the field
  17. Interesting change in the Japanese/MLB posting system. Apparently now the posting fee is capped at just 20 million dollars, and however many teams want to post the max, they all have the right to negotiate with the player, and only the team that signs him has to pay the 20 million to his original team. Great news for any Japanese players wanting to come over, bad news for their teams. And good news for all the MLB teams without the Yankees' financial might. Now they can compete on things other than willingness to spend the most money, like, perhaps, proximity to Japan. This could have a big impact on the ability of the Yankees to land that star Japanese starter, who I think is there number one way to boost the rotation. I figured the Yankees would bid some crazy number - since it doesn't count on the salary cap - and land him. Now, his team in Japan has much less incentive to let him go, and more MLB teams can bid up his price. I'm sure the Red Sox would bid the max just to be able to talk to him and see what shakes out.
  18. I GOT ONE!!!!!!
  19. Robbie goes, in the interest oh fiscal sanity, and here comes three years of Beltran.
  20. Well I do enjoy some vibes but ID-ing different vibists is way out of my league, so I have only a couple of guesses: Could that be Steve Nelson with 'Grew on track 3? I'll admit to peeking and seeing that you said its not Bags, so my fallback when its not Bags is Nelson. Is that Bags playing Tenderly? Thanks Mike.
