Thanks, Lazaro. I'm listening! The band sounds great -- and I always love hearing Mr. Froncek on drums! My dad called me on his cell phone right before the show started -- told me to tune in at 10pm. He's there for this week's camp (clarinet player).

I also have 9, and regret one: Anita O'Day. Nine CDs of Anita is about 6 or 7 more than I need at this point.

Earl Hines - Another Monday Date This is actually two dates -- a quartet (Hines, Eddie Duran-guitar, Dean Reilly-bass, Earl Watkins-drums), and a solo session. Recorded for Fantasy 1955-1956; the "sympathetic quartet setting" surveys the music of Fats Waller, while the solo session includes many originals made famous in the '20s and '30s. Very nice record! Best "new" find for me so far, second only to the Ellington Suites.

Looks like quite a few of the recordings discussed here are available from the Jazz Loft. Interestingly, "Let's call this... Esteem" is also available as a $9.99 download.

I've skimmed parts of it, and have been very impressed so far. Very nicely done, thorough, tons of pictures, discography, 2-page sections dedicated to some of the important recordings... I can't help but thinking that it would be great if Mr. Kahn did something similar for Blue Note Records. Richard Cook's book pales in comparison.

Don't sweat it, Scott. My order did the same thing -- it took five days between "departed Sacramento" and "Out for Delivery". Fed Ex Ground doesn't update while your order is slowly making its way across the country.

Cafe Press - Organissimo Jazz Forum You can pick up a thong, too! I have one of these shirts, and I'll be honest: I hate it, and I never wear it. The back of the shirt looks like a big bulls eye, and I was never crazy about the logo on the front either. Looks like the "value tee" doesn't have the design on the back; I wish I had ordered that one. I would have preferred to see the words "Jazz Forum" or "Discuss Jazz" (or something like that) displayed more prominently.

Upright Bill hasn't checked in here for awhile... but I do know that he was out in Vegas a few weeks ago for the World Series of Poker. Haven't heard if he won any big $$$...
