  1. What's wrong with recognizing what you don't like??
  2. Uncle Tupelo, even though they imploded far too soon into two lesser bands
  3. How? May I suggest that it is probably the starting point for virtually everybody new to jazz? You should thank her
  4. Damn!!! I didn't know he was on that!! I was watching the beginning of it, but it seemed to messy for me, too many similar sounding guitars all playing at once(why was Eric's multi colored??), and once Jimmie Vaughan started singing I couldn't bear it any more, so I shut it off (I've never been able to like anything I've heard by either Vaughan brother). If I had known Santana was there I would have waited it out.
  5. When you're as talented as Wayne, you probably have the confidence to set your own path.....
  6. I thought Jarret said somewhere that yes he did hate it, but it was a chance to play/tour/record with Miles, so he had to do it. You don't say no to Miles
  7. Yep, I would go if it wasn't a Tuesday, but that is my big babysitting night, when the Mrs. is at school until almost 10pm. So, I'll miss this one
  8. one more reason why we gotta have stricter gun control in this country.
  9. I am STILL waiting for my Braxton disc from Downtown Music Gallery. It's been about 5 weeks now. I think I may just cancel it.
  10. all of it. Beginning to end

    Anthony Braxton

What does anyone think of Braxton on piano? Specifically, the Kinitting Factory and Yoshi's CDs with him at piano in a quartet
  12. once again, political nastiness creeping into other threads.......
  13. well, as long as you have it! Those Numbers sessions are fascinating. I can't get enough of this stuff
  14. It's a great set. Actually, my copy is sitting right next to me on the table. It's a GREAT set. And I'm listening to mine (# 2285) right now! I only wish that I had Chuck autograph it for me back in January
  15. John Coltrane Expression
  16. I can't even get to the lyrics. It's the music that puts me off. Just never been able to find what everyone else loves about this album. I have a couple friends who are nuts about this one, placing it up there with all the classics. I've never found Knopfler all that exciting a player anyway, though
  17. Can someone please tell me what I'm missing then? I find Slow Train unlistenable! It's terrible. I've never ever been able to sit all the way through it. I gave it another chance when the SACD came out, hoping the better sound would reach me, but still, I find it boring, dull, and too late 70s-ish sounding. Street Legal is much better. Even Infidels is better. I'd even listen to parts of Knocked out Loaded before I could attempt Slow Train again.
  18. I love it all! I haven't heard too many live versions of Afro-Blue and Blue Train either, which are both on this set.
  19. I find DGM to be one of the best online shops. I order every Crimson disc through them, because they have good prices and they do ship quickly. I've ordered on a Sunday and had the disc by Wednesday before. Excellent customer service too. If you liked the Power to Believe, you will definitely like Elektrik. I think, as usual wtih Crimson, the live versions are better than the studio versions- that version of Power Circle is outstanding. And Lark's IV and Level Five are pretty impressive too. The B'boom disc is one of my favorites. Very raw (for Crimson) performances, and with very good sound. That period of Crimson is one of my favorites, and that disc is second only to the live in Mexico show (half of the double disc VROOOM VROOOM) for me.
  20. Nope on both, but I'd love to hear them. I'm not the biggest Lanois fan, but I do like what he did with Time out of Mind and Willie Nelson's Teatro (I dislike U2 so no comment on him there, and although I like Oh Mercy, it's not because of the production. I think Dylan had a good band on that one, but not his best songs). The Time out of Mind songs are so good, well written, that they probably sound good in whatever arrangement and production attempted. Having Brian Blade play on some of them helps too!
  21. I think possibly the best thing about Fripp is how he chooses to move Crimson forward. I always listen to Crimson to hear all of the players, never for one player, and never just for Fripp's playing.
  22. Fripp is the one of the best guitarists I've ever heard, second only to Zappa (maybe). He is such an individual, so creative. I love his solos and his writing (after 5 years I still can't digest all of FraKctured, or the solo he lays down on Larks Tongues part IV)
  23. Love and Theft and Time Out of Mind are two of his very best albums, easily rivaling anything he did in the 70s or 60s. It's really hard not to feel the end is near when listening to Time Out of Mind-the sound of an old man who still has a lot to say. And the band he has on Love and Theft is one of his very best, hard rocking and in a groove the entire album. I used to think Dylan stopped doing anything worthwhile in the mid 70s, but man these latest two tower above everything he did in the late 70s and 80s combined
  24. ...with the subtitle "open discussion ONLY if you're a far left liberal. Anyone else will be abused, spit on, insulted and kicked out"
  25. the one time I ate there, all I tasted was SALT. The potatoes, turkey and mac & cheese were all just different forms of salt. They looked different but tasted the same
