  1. I just listened to half of it for the first time in a long time and it's great, moody, dark and groovin' all at once. I'll listen to the second half later today.
  2. Now that's a 'fro!!!
  3. Susie Ibarra Marilyn Mazur I saw Cindy Blackman in January with the Lifetime Tribute band(Vernon Reid, Jack Bruce & John Medeski)and she was KILLIN'
  4. The head first slide claims another victim.
  5. RIP I only knew his music from his two 'Vietnam' titled dics and perhaps one with El'Zabar, but he was an original player who played with soul.
  6. After Beckett's gem last night I think we can talk Dan down from the ledge. In all the hoopla about teams that started 0-6 and didn't make the playoffs/WS, how many of them were actually considered good teams at the start of the season? It's no surprise if a team is lousy and starts off 0-6, so we may be looking at an extremely small sample size here.
  7. It's a two part case. First is to prove he took steroids, second that he knew it was steroids.
  8. I just came home from seeing Jeff Beck and the Imelda May band at the Beacon in NYC. It was absolutely amazingfantasticincrediblemindblowingstellargreat. Words are inadequate to descibe both how amazing Jeff Beck is as a guitarist and how Imelda May is as a vocalist. If you have ANY CHANCE IN THE WORLD TO SEE THEM, GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They did Les Paul tunes, early rock'n'roll and finished with a heart-wrenching version of 'Danny Boy'that nearly made me cry. 40 years of going to concerts and this was one of the absolute best. I'll be in a state of bliss until at least Wednesday. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. I saw her sit in with the Allman Brothers in 2006 for an epic 'Elizabeth Reed',replete with a tremendous bass solo. When she got on stage she looked like she was about 14, and I thought "OK, play your little thing and let's get on with the show". 30 seconds into playing I dumped that thought and realized I was watching a real talent. In 2009 I saw her with Jeff Beck and she hit one out of the park! Beck gave her plenty of free reign and she played great, at times doubling his knotty guitar lines, throwing bass bombs here and there and she took a few solos also. I was blown away at someone so young playing like a veteran and doing everything within the context of what the band was playing.
  10. Last night I caught the Allman Brothers at the Beacon in NYC. As their special guest for the evening they brought out John Scofield! He played some blistering solos on 'Elizabeth Reed' and 'Mountain Jam'.During 'Mountain Jam' they interpolated 'Birdland' by Weather Report The Allman Brothers played exceptional, with special kudos to the two fine guitarists, Derek Trucks & Warren Haynes.
  11. I bought Aurora a couple weeks ago and I'm listening to it for the forst time now- EXCELLENT!!! Swings like mad, with the bass & drums in a great groove, but the horns getting a bit 'out' here and there. Three more discs of these guys, I'm in on the preorder without a doubt.
  12. By decertifying, the players are then free to sue on antitrust grounds with the possibilty of treble damages if they win- that's a huge hammer for the players and could result in damages in the billions. Without a union to bless the draft and some sort of salary structure etc the owners are legally acting in a non-competitive manner and are thus open to an antitrust lawsuit. Of course the numbers are different, but what the owners proposed was about a 20% DECREASE in salaries for an 18 game season. That's about the same as say, you make 50,000/year for a 40 hour workweek and your boss tells you that starting next week you'll be working 45 hours for $40,000/year.
  13. Adolf Hitler Josef Stalin Pol Pot
  14. Saw Martha Redbone last night in a freebie at the Brooklyn Museum. her music is '70s style soul with bits of Native American music mixed in. All originals, and she's a really good singer. Here's a link to her website: http://www.martharedbone.com/marthaframeset.html
  15. I saw them in '82 in NYC, my first Crimson show and I was blown away completely. That show is available now as a download at DGM.
  16. From the Amazon listing it looks to be a CD + DVD, so $27.27 might not be that bad(convincing himself it's a good deal prior to pulling the trigger).
  17. Thursday night(2/24) I saw Falu at Joe's Pub in NYC. She's leaning a lot more towards traditional Indian music than the hybrid/fusion of east/west she had done previously. Great set to a packed house. Here's a link to her website: http://www.falumusic.com/
  18. Here's another Zero Tolerance=Zero Intelligence: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/manhattan/kicked_out_for_prank_8itjNST1uZYzxodQW3GwhM
  19. Van Basten, I ordered one and it took about 2 weeks before it arrived(I live in the US.) Have you been waiting more than 3 weeks?
  20. I didn't originate it, but Zero Tolerance= Zero Intelligence
  21. He played for 8 teams and wore out his welcome with each one. If there's a malcontent Hall of Fame he's a first ballot guy.
  22. Looks like every store in NYC is closing...
  23. Bertrand, I went to some Newport in NY events way back when, and I recall having a bill of 5/6 acts and about 3 hours to present it all! Everybody had to play a short set to fit in, perhaps it's something along the same lines. I went to a guitar thing in the 70s and in the middle was Roy Buchanan, who tore the roof off the joint. Despite a rabid reaction he got no encore because there was no time for it.
  24. To pay him premium $$ when he's 37+ is insane- I'll see that when A-Rod gets there and he gets paid until he's 42!
  25. I'm the same age as JPG3, and I remember the kidnapping and thinking what a cheap prick JPG1 was not to pay anything until he got the ear in the mail. At last he's found some peace.
