  1. Used my stimulus check as a down payment on a new road bike.
  2. I was fortunate enough to get regular unleaded for 3.99/gal yesterday considering right down the street it costs 4.05 and 4.07/gal. Interesting sidenote, there are 2 local gas stations right across the street from one another. The Mobil sells gas at 4.05/gal and the Citgo next door 4.17/gal. You'd be amazed the cars I see everyday pumping gas at Citgo. Fools. It must be nice to be rich and not have a care in the world.
  3. Hi Harold. I'm sort of in the same boat as you needing to finally upgrade the receiver after close to 25 years? I own an old Yahama R-9 receiver pushing 125 watts. It's served me well up to recently when the audio seems to drop out now and then. Looks like I'll finally have to bite the bullet. Have you checked out any of the receivers over at Crutchfield's website? This is a receiver I've been eyeing. Crutchfield Website Even if this doesn't meet your expectations, it might be worth searching there inventory?

    Deep Purple

I always felt these guys were sadly neglected(underated) compared with the scores of other bands that came out of the 70's. I recently saw an excellent documentary on VH1 Classic on Deep Purple's "Machine Head" . I think it might have been at least 5 years old? Just the same, it was great to see the interviews with past members talking how the whole album came together song by song. Very enjoyable.
  5. Sad to see and hear about this stuff. I always enjoyed visiting there stores in the past. They always had better prices than Barnes And Noble there major competitor and a much better selection of releases. Outside of an occasional visit to Newbury Comics, the net has now become my major source for cd purchases these days.
  6. I noticed a good number of Blue Note titles were marked down this weekend over at Amazon. Limited edition items that I've seen as high as $17.99 marked down to either $10.97 and $11.97. Took advantage and picked up a few. Jackie McLean - Jacknife Tina Brooks - Minor Move Bobby Hutcherson - Stick Up! Grant Green - Solid Wayne Shorter - Schizophrenia Larry Young - Into Somethin Clifford Brown - Brown and Roach Inc. (8.97)
  7. Shoot!!! I just stumbled across this thread. I'm sure it was a great show.
  8. Jim, my condolences to you and your family. I lost my dad 6 weeks ago on Monday and while I miss him terribly, he's in a much better place. Please take comfort from the many memories you shared. Sounds like he was great man.
  9. Trane, isn't there a local Post Office in your neighborhood or near your workplace? I realise it may be a pain in the ass to have to stand in line to return the darn thing. But it sure beats having to stand around waiting for your carrier to show up for his appointed rounds and miss a day from work. Just make sure you write on the package DID NOT ORDER, REFUSED or RETURN TO SENDER. That should solve your problem.
  10. You could leave a note on the package for your carrier or better yet write on the package DID NOT ORDER, RETURN TO SENDER!. That said, I don't know your neighborhood and maybe it might not be a good idea to leave the package out in the open? The other alternative would be to call your local PO and have them pick the item up. Tom the Postman
  11. Disc 1 A great set of music with a healthy dose of Harold Land and you can't go wrong.
  12. Good for you Ron. Two more today from the same outfit @ 9.99 each.
  13. I can't believe this was available from Amazon Marketplace/Newbury Comics for less than $11 including shipping. I had to jump on it.
  14. Sorry to read some of the negative comments concerning the upcoming book. I was looking to purchase this in the next month or so. Looks like my money might be best served elsewhere. I do appreciate the input.
  15. Funny to run across this thread. I was playing the Living Stereo release this morning and it never fails to amaze me. While I don't own a huge classical music collection, this surely ranks near the top of the list as my all time favs. I could be in the middle of something and when the second movement begins, I'll drop everything that I'm doing. A spectacular work and recording. So glad to own it.
  16. I enjoy these performances recorded I believe around 1959? Not a Bernstein Century release, but a very nice collection of Haydn's Paris Symphonies.
  17. I just placed an order tonight and the 20% off sale continues at least for now. Bought: Jimmy Heath - On The Trail Phineas Newborn - The Newborn Touch Junior Mance - Happy Time Booker Ervin - Groovin' High Roy Haynes and Booker Ervin - Cracklin' Kenny Dorham - Blue Spring Mal Waldron - Mal 2 Total $54.77 with free shipping.
  18. I had to log onto the forum tonight for some reason. Good thing my computer remembered my password. I didn't have a clue.
  19. Today has been a pretty shitty day for me. Without going into the details, this clip at least got me laughing. I hope it brightens your day as well. Enjoy! Rodney Dangerfield from "Easy Money".
  20. I just purchased this a few moments ago via Newbury Comics for just over $13 including shipping.
  21. Got a good feeling that this set is no longer available? But I purchased from Berkshire Record Outlet at least 5 yrs. ago the George Szell/Cleveland Symphony Brahms cycle on SONY. I believe the 3 disc set set me back $15? Again, it may prove a difficult find. Well worth seeking out though.
  22. Sounds like exciting news, Zen. Definitely something to look forward to. My favorite is the Natick Newbury Comics store. Made alot of purchases there last spring.
  23. Disc 4 Contains the music from the albums "In Pursuit Of Blackness" and "Joe Henderson In Japan".
