Just a brief update. I receive the Carmell Jones select today. Man, that was fast! I placed the order Sunday and it was sitting on my porch this afternoon. It doesn't look like I'll be able to get in any listening tonight since the wife should be home from work shortly. I hope to report back as soon as I can. Very excited about this one.

On the forum I help run, we have nearly 2800 people registered. Of that, just over half have ever posted. Curiously, I notice this forum is also plagued by spammers, porn sites and other crap registering accounts. Usually we end up deleting most of this stuff as I'm sure Jim has to do here on a daily basis.

A lesson learned, Guy. I guess with this being the holiday season, we all should be aware for the potential for this type of nonsense. I'm just releaved it didn't cause any damage.

I just pulled the trigger on this one. I look forward to receiving it hopefully by the end of the week and will post my impressions then. Sounds like I can't go wrong here.

I just wanted to give you guys a headsup. Some idiot claiming to be a 'family member' just sent me an email from egreetings.com. I went to open the attachment and my Anti Virus software program went off detecting a virus. I was able to delete it before it caused any damage. If you receive an email, the best bet would be delete it immediately. I don't know who the frig would do this, but I'm not happy.

I'm presently listening to Donald Byrd's "Byrd In Hand" which features some fine playing of Pepper Adams. This is really a very nice album all around. Up to this point I don't believe I have anything that features the playing of Adams besides the other issue I own, Byrd's "Royal Flush". I'm really digging his stuff. So the question lies, what else can you recommend for me of Pepper Adams? As always I appreciate the input. Thanks.

No reason for me to change. I mean, you still can't go wrong at 6.99. This might be an opportunity for me to save a few bucks and make a few purchases that have been piling up in my queue recently.

Man this is without a doubt one of my favorite jazz albums, period. Great cast lead by JJ, Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Jordan, Cedar Walton, Arthur Harper and Albert "Tootie" Heath. Recorded in 1960 and available on the SONY label. Great playing and excellent sound. It does cost some extra bucks to pick this one up, but well worth it, IMO. Anyone else here love this album as much as I do?

Hi guys. I realise we have a number of classical music fans on this forum. So I figured it was worth the effort to post here on this forum. I'm presently listening to Arthur Rubinstein's performances of Chopin. "Ballades, Scherzos and Tarantelle" on the RCA Red Seal label recorded in the late 1950's. The performances are awesome and the sonics, incredible. Now I realise, some of his best performances are on his earlier recordings. That said, at the moment I'm interested in his later recordings strictly because of the sonics. So play along with me for the moment and through out a few recommendations for his later recordings which in your mind are still worthy performances. Thanks.

While I haven't been officially diagnosed, for the same reasons you've already site I would make a good candidate. Alot of times I find myself asking people to repeat things. I lay in bed at night to the sound of my ears ringing. Too much loud music over the yrs. without a doubt. Even with that said, do I ever think it would be a great idea to turn down the volume? Why of course not! When I'm home alone and the wife is out working, there's a good chance I'm cranking out the tunes here.

I have a couple of those albums and at some point today, play them in his memory. RIP Robert.

Marin couple calls for global orgasm for peace MARCUS WOHLSEN Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO - Two peace activists have planned a massive anti-war demonstration for the first day of winter. But they don't want you marching in the streets. They'd much rather you just stay home. The Global Orgasm for Peace was conceived by Donna Sheehan, 76, and Paul Reffell, 55, who live together on a houseboat along scenic Tomales Bay in Marin County, just north of San Francisco. Their immodest goal is for everyone in the world to have an orgasm on December 22 while focusing on world peace. "The orgasm gives out an incredible feeling of peace during it and after it," Reffell said on Sunday. "Your mind is like a blank. It's like a meditative state. And mass meditations have been shown to make a change." The couple are no strangers to sex and social activism. Sheehan, no relation to fellow Northern California anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, brought together nearly 50 women in 2002 who stripped naked and spelled out the word "Peace" on a grassy hillside in Marin County. The stunt spawned a mini-movement called Baring Witness that led to similar unclothed demonstrations worldwide. The couple have studied evolutionary psychology and believe that war is mainly an outgrowth of men trying to impress potential mates, a case of "my missile is bigger than your missile," as Reffell put it. By promoting what they hope to be a synchronized global orgasm, they hope to get people to channel their sexual energy into something more positive. "Religion, science, art, medicine - you name any great accomplishment that the human race has made and none of it has stopped war and aggression," Sheehan said. "We thought, 'What's the next unbelievable, untested biological gift that we've all been given?' The orgasm." Interest in participating appears strong, according to the couple. They reported receiving 26,000 visitors a day to their Web site thanks to links from several blogs. Sheehan said she received "a soulful letter from a man in Istanbul" who lamented that because he lacked a partner, he couldn't take part. They assured him that there were no rules for when, where or how the orgasm was achieved, as long as it was on the given day, she said. "It's basically what ever turns you on," Reffell said. Participants can identify one another through the "secret signal," according to the Global Orgasm Web site, of a thumb and forefinger shaped to form the letter O. The one guideline Sheehan and Reffell do encourage everyone to follow is to practice safe sex and use birth control, citing overpopulation as a source of many of the world's woes. Reffell said the couple hopes to coordinate with the New Jersey-based Global Consciousness Project to measure the impact of the Global O. The experiment, directed by a Princeton University scientist, claims that the psychic energy of many people worldwide focusing on the same event, like Princess Diana's funeral or the Olympics, can create patterns in otherwise random lists of numbers generated by computers. Still, documenting the Global O's possible effects is not the main focus. "The dream is to have everyone in the world (take part)," Reffell said. "And if that means laying down your gun for a few minutes, then hey, all the better." ON THE NET http://www.globalorgasm.org

Tom. I think I played JuJu more often than any other album last year. The title track is my least favorite cut. I burned a copy for the car without it. Hey GA! Just to let you know I received Wayne's JuJu yesterday and am listening to it right now. I hear you referring to the title cut. Reminds me much more of Coltrane on that track compared to the rest of the album. Not saying that's a bad thing of course. The album has a nice feel about it. Thanks for plugging this one. Next up in my queue is Jackie McLean's Right Now! Unless Donald Byrd's 'Royal Flush' or Hank Mobley's 'Another Workout' suddenly becomes available.

I just purchased the 'Teo' album recently and it introduced me to the playing of Teddy Charles. Really great album. Besides those already mentioned, does anyone have any thoughts on this release?

As a follow up. I received the Joe Gordon release today in the mail. Talk about fast! It looks like I'll be using these guys in the future without a doubt. Very, very happy here.

Very cool. After reading some of the thoughts on the Caiman thread, I thought it might be a good idea to seek out better alternatives. Thanks.

Thanks for all the input fellas. I realise sometimes these type of lineups don't always live up to the hype. With some of my favorite musicians aboard, I have a good feeling I'm going to enjoy this one. Thanks again!

I guess I could've easily posted this question in the Caiman thread. But, I was curious as to what your opinions of Newbury Comics were? I made a purchase from them the other night(Joe Gordon) and received a notification less then 24 hrs. later that the item had been shipped. Your thoughts on these guys? They're highly rated.

Can I get some thoughts on this release? Looks like a heck of a lineup on a 2 cd set. Thanks.
