  1. We are re-airing "Benny Goodman's Interlude In Bop" this week, and it remains archived for online listening: http://indianapublicmedia.org/nightlights/bennys-bop-benny-goodman-late-1940s/ Next week on Night Lights: "Have Yourself a Very Quiet Christmas."
  2. Thanks belatedly for the birthday wishes--I miss youse guys and this joint. Hoping, now that things have settled down a bit into a more regular routine in my new life, to be more active on the board in the coming year. Way too much wisdom and fun to be had here!
  3. I picked up a copy of that Stones-in-1965 documentary last week and am hoping to give it a viewing this weekend.
  4. Dave Brubeck, ANGEL EYES.
  5. Richard Brody's New Yorker write-up.
  6. I'm seeing it tomorrow night at the IU Cinema in Bloomington.
  7. I've been listening to the recently-reissued GARY BURTON QUARTET IN CONCERT and wondered... has anybody ever run the idea of a Burton RCA box past Mosaic and gotten a response?
  8. Glad to hear this has reached the level of public disclosure/release date. How many CDs, Hans? Seven?
  9. Doesn't Paul Combs (who posts here?) have a Dameron book coming out soon through U of Michigan Press?
  10. It's a Gift When All 162 Games Matter Quite a season all around, though I wasn't able to follow it nearly as closely as I have in recent years. If the Yanks don't win it all, I'd love to see any of the other AL teams this year take the WS... reasons to root for all of them.
  11. A review of the Chabon novel by jazz critic Ted Gioia: Telegraph Avenue
  12. Who's the Bill Evans cover girl?
  13. Episode 1 is now up for online listening: Gennett Days: Hot Jazz From The Heartland
  14. I thought we had a thread devoted to this at one time, but an initial search did not turn it up, so... anything on the horizon that you're excited about, Mosaic or non-Mosaic? Or just anything in general?
  15. Got this a couple of weeks ago via Amazon Canada and plan to start listening to it during my daily commutes, starting with the Joe Henderson set tonight.
  16. Thanks, KH--I may go ahead and pick that one up.
  17. Saw this trio in Bloomington last year and they were excellent.
  18. Is COAST TO COAST worth checking out?
  19. I've spent much less time here over the past year solely because of big changes in my personal life, and I, too, use Facebook quite a lot these days. But I agree that a bulletin board like this one provides a unique venue for conversational exchanges (especially about jazz) that simply don't occur in most Facebook interaction. Not to mention the general intellect and civility of posters here; I really do hold this board and its members in high esteem and am grateful that Jim continues to maintain it. (And that Larry takes upon himself the unwelcome chore of moderating discussions, along with Weizen. Herr Weizen, it's been far too long! BTW, how's the doc doing these days? Not long ago I had a notion that he should record a punk-rock record and title it VIENNA CALLING.) Anyway, in the end it's just a cool place to spend some time chatting about jazz or what-have-you online with like-minded people. I remain quite grateful for that.
  20. Yes--I'm the one who included the Amazon link when I started the Sutherland thread and didn't really recall the rule or stop to consider whether or not RLR was a "legit" label... admittedly it's a very gray area with a number of these labels (and not gray at all with others), but I understand Jim's desire, for a variety of reasons, to err on the side of caution and legitimacy when it comes to such links. Truly just an oversight on my part, and the first time I can think of that I've made such a link... can't you let me off with a simple warning, officer?
  21. Any news on a release date for this set?
  22. He seemed fine when he was giving a talk on Monday. And Portraits in Blue has been back on the air for quite some time already. http://www.wbgo.org/profile/bporter I don't think he ever stopped doing it for WBGO--they just stopped distributing it nationally to other stations. That's what I heard not long after my initial post, anyway. Fortunately fans can still hear it live via the Internet, though. I miss having it on our station on Saturday nights.
