  1. Has anyone seen the going rate for a used copy on Amazon? Like $58 and up.
  2. I'd be curious to see what Paul Chambers would've done in the 1970's had he lived longer.
  3. Incredibly cool. Thanks so much for posting!
  4. He was definintely one of the most creative voices in jazz. Such a tragic loss to the music community in general. Got to meet him once after an astonishing lecture he gave while I was in college and man, what an impression he left on me (he even wore the lab coat). I think I'll spin Tribute to Lester in his honor today. edit: how could I forget, Happy Birthday!

  6. I still buy cd's, but rarely new. I still love combing through used cd bins hoping to find a great bargain. Thankfully, I haven't had to sell cds for economic reasons, but only for the reason that I don't care for it. My solution when my collection gets too big, is not to scale down, but to buy more shelves.
  7. I agree on tone, especially on Ornette's Science Fiction; he just hits all the right notes and his playing is some of the best playing I've heard of his anywhere else. Second what he does on Everywhere and Orgasm too; he just manages to get a great sound out of his bass, almost like he can get in between notes, for lack of a better way to describe it. In that regard, not that they are alike, but Paul Chambers can get an amazing tone out of his bass too.
  8. You learn something new everyday
  9. Agree Tom. Unfortunately, a slew of Hill titles are seeing the ax, including favorites like Dance with Death, Andrew!!! and Pax.
  10. Have you gone into a store recently and tried to sell regular US Blue Note CDs? I think you'll be lucky if they offer 50 cents to a dollar each. If you wanted store credit, you might get them up to $2, but even that might be lucky. Remember, many stores are selling sealed/new current Blue Note CDs for around $6-8. Used, they have to sell less than that which means they have to buy them for even less than that to make any money. Kevin Hey Kevin, I sold 100 cds for $3/each. The store wants more. If I had auctioned these on ebay, I would have gotten perhaps $5 on half of them, and the other half wouldn't sell at all. I'm happy with the deal. I'm going to sell more of them over there. Maybe there aren't many jazz lovers in your part of the country? I live in the Cleveland area, would you be willing to tell me where you sold your stash? PM if you feel more comfortable. Thanks, HG.
  11. Man, it seemed like he was a cool cat. RIP. It also seems he's flown under the radar for me, so this thread has inspired me to check him out. Thanks.
  12. New batch of 24bit OJC's: Waltz for Debby Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus Boss Guitar Chet Baker Sings- It Could Happen to You ... and Dig...does this mean the Prestige RVG series is over now too?
  13. Matt Mathews on accordian, where he appears on Joe Puma's Wild Kitten along with his own date, both on Dawn.
  14. Curious if you know this from lp or cd. Thanks. Even more curious about folks listening to "Forces and Feelings". CD. Glad to have the bonus track.
  15. Humility in the Light of the Creator is a stone-cold classic for me. Very nice stuff from the AACM era.
  16. That was really cool of Dave to say, as I'm a fan of all involved too.
  17. Very lucky used cd find today: Charles Tolliver-Impact-Strata East/Charley for $10!
