Ok, well I wasn't able to see this movie back in November because plans fell through, but by some stroke of luck, it was shown again in Cleveland, this time at the Cleveland Museum of Art; so I asked my older daughter if she would like to go since she has heard me talk about and play Ayler for years now, and so much to my chagrin and surprise she said yes! So off we went tonight to watch the film together. My God, I've never seen anything more beautiful then that couple-minute clip of Ayler in '66-WOW! That was some amazing footage!!! WHERE'S THE REST???? I've never seen Ayler animated so it just hit me like a ton of bricks; how he lifted the horn up and all of those notes just pouring out of him and his horn like he was a conduit for the music-it was so amazing and spiritual that it brought me to tears-no musician has ever done that to me-it was amazing to watch what I've been listening to all this time! The Foundation Maight footage was an additional bonus! WOW again! Man, the footage of him and Sunny, Gary and Bernard was cool-I just can't believe the footage that Caspar got for this film. At the end, I found my daughter was moved too, who really liked the man Albert Ayler-and the music really touched her too. It was cool to see. We talked about Ayler's death on the way home and I tried to explain as best as I could, the different reasons why things happened the way they did. She could only say what would the world be like if Albert were still here? I thought she posed a good question and it was a positive way to end the evening.
