  1. Believe me, I didn't mean it as a knock on Zeca. I'm deeply grateful for what he's doing. It would be exponentially more difficult and expensive to explore this genre without his hard work. I'd have to believe there's some enthusiasm at DG despite the hype, with all that selection. The BASTARDS!
  2. Lakers=not going anywhere this year. Early playoff exit.
  3. http://www.ento.psu.edu/MAAREC/pressReleas...eUpdate0107.pdf More info...
  4. You wouldn't want some of MY vinyl, Noj - where's the smiley for "Yechcchhh!"? Almost every CD I buy that I already have on vinyl is a huge upgrade. MG True, but if I could have them all crisp and new I could digitize them myself then tuck the precious plates away.
  5. I don't have a RapidShare account, but some of those links at Loronix are from old (though apparently still active) .de links that RapidShare used before they went to .com — which at least explains why the screen looks different. Man, that's a lot of downloads. What, you didn't want to download the "Péle Sings" record? Thanks for the explanation, Late. The trouble is, Zeca is like the Dusty Groove of bloggers. Everything is "essential" and "a classic." I'm not sure what to skip! Now that I've got a big chunk, I'll listen for a while before going back for more.

Maybe I grabbed too much too quickly? My subscription was supposed to last through April.
  7. Much obliged, Jim. I'm having a blast so far! I've set up a nice bossa playlist on my iPod, and now I've got close to 200 songs in it. Some of my previous favorite tunes are: Baden Powell "Consolicao" Vinicius De Moraes "Samba De Bencao" Duke Pearson "Canta De Ossanha" Astrud Gilberto/Tom Jobim "Agua De Beber" I'm sure I'll find many more favorites on Laronix! I'm hoping for more as good as the above.
  8. I'll look into those, thanks Late. I had some trouble figuring out where their archived albums are, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
  9. If I could trade all my cds for vinyl, I would.
  10. So I already downloaded about six or seven albums from Loronix. among them... Antonio Carlos Barbosa Lima - 10 Dedos Magicos Carlos Monteiro de Souza e Seu Conjunto - Pra Frente Eumir Deodato - Ideias The Lima is from 1957, recorded when he was just 14 years old. Simply stunning ability, virtuoso classical guitar.
  11. Happy Birthday!
  12. Percentage-wise, there aren't that many fans of Brazilian music here. Only a handful of people seemed interested in the "Hard Bossa" thread mentioned above, and I got zero responses to my last post in that thread (in January), directing people to the amazing LORONIX blog, where hundreds of oop Brazilian recordings are available. Go. Explore. Learn. Enjoy. Wow, I'm going nuts in that place. Thanks Jim!
  13. Following along intently, with not much to add. I've barely scratched the surface of this genre, but I love it.
  14. Yet, he had no trouble hitting singles. It's a bummer he's such a sleaze. Him breaking the all-time hits record was one of my big childhood baseball memories, as I had a distant relative playing on the Reds at the time so my family was watching all their games.
  15. Cheese and macaroni, it don't seem odd to me.
  16. Shrdlu knew beer was just another tool of Satan!
  17. I prefer darker brews and I usually hate Heineken. I was surprised to find it reasonably drinkable when I visited in 2004. Over here it's this raspy skunky flat junk that gives me a headache.
  18. Ro-beer, have a Heineken in Amsterdam--it's actually good there since it's fresh, not skunky like the stuff we get on this continent.
  19. Spot-on analysis, Edward. Shipp is really an x-factor, he seems to show up at odd times in the game when the team needs someone to step up. Mata's improvement has also been notable this year. That Florida team is a monster though, they play with so much confidence. Noah and Brewer are tough players, and two of their perimeter players sank 11 three pointers last game. The Bruins will need a mammoth defensive effort to slow the Gators down.
  20. I bought clippers and give myself a fresh buzz cut with a #2 every other week.
  21. You know, you can't "learn" to be this much of a badass. You either are are you aren't. Jo Jones was. There was a lengthy interview with him in Modern Drummer about 25 years ago that still boggles my mind. Pure Truth. The man was a freakin' force of nature, simple as that. "Music" was just the vehicle. Wow! Serious skills, too cool for school.
  22. Kobe only player since Wilt in '62 with four straight 50+ point games, all Laker victories.
  23. ...and the Celtics were like the Globetrotters.
