    Ronnie Ross

Hi couw, JPC currently offers a compilation of german jazz between 1962-68 including some Ronnie Ross called Forum West - Modern Jazz From West Germany 1962-1968 Tracklist: Cheers, Tjobbe
  3. Sorry for being late with my post... as I'm the more groovy Lee Morgan addict (as the STOPSTART track on this record) I was really surprised by this album as its fully of melodies and and eloqent album... Both Wayne Shorter compositions (Dear Sir is great, but I like Rio more as the its little bit more tricky with its light Latin rhythm thats driving specially Hutcherson... ok, I like doorbells ) are the album highlights and honestly I like Shorter much more when playing as sidemen here as on his own BN albums as leader made around 65-67.... Anyway, thanks for selecting it ubu Cheers, Tjobbe
  4. the problem with the German EMI ones is that they also find their way to foreign countries.... even in the Philippines they sold them, so I would really wonder how long the US will stay unprotected.... Although its 1st April thats quite close to reality.... B) Cheers, Tjobbe BTW Suede, BN does never respond to any email complaining about Copy Protection....
  5. the firstl non classical concert (that I paid for) was 1978 the Cologne Concert of Mike Oldfields Tubalar Bells (which my girl friend wanted to go to... what you do when you're in love ) Cheers, Tjobbe
  6. Hi Mike, agree with your comment on the Tjader in regards of the musical quality compared to other recordings, although still a reasonable good effort... ! the sound mix of this great anyway ! Cheers, Tjobbe EDIT: I simply bought it because I have few records from his late 70'/early 80's period
  7. I got some of mine from here: Cal Tjader at CD pacific or via Zshops/privat sale at amazon.com. Recommended from my end: Sonny Clark (sound is superb) and beside the above Tjader the Buddy Rich (but with only 35mins a very short pleasure) I also bought the In Hifi from Bob James but its a very very smooth jazz and nothing I would highly recommend.. Cheers, Tjobbe
  8. the new AMG looks good to me at least, but if I would need to pay.. not sure if I would do that ... most likely: not cheers, Tjobbe

    New K2's

yes Claude, this is their ebay shop....(they sometimes do have more good prices on Boxes like the Sonny Rollins or the Bill Evans K2 Village Vanguard one) @couw: yes, 2001 has them too but not the very last batch, witht them you normally need to wait some time before they offer them for discounted prices. Cheers, Tjobbe

  14. Hi Jim, got my discs yesterday and hope to pay some attention to them during the next days.. first impression: more on that I do not have a clue right from the beginning.... some stuff on I really enjoyed directly when playing some shortcuts... more to come... cheers, Tjobbe EDIT: after a quick listening session:... #3.... sounds somewhat familiar (a very very early 60st Jim Alfredson maybe B) or one of his precessors on Organ here) #4 seems to be a RTF one or even more a kind of RTF follower with Flora Purim as vocalist and on percussions (would bet its with George Duke on electric Piano) #5 some jazzy Klezmer ??? new to me but I dig it.. #7-9 no clue, but great stuff that I do really like much #12 .. would bet money on Tyner here but not sure what record its from so will dig a bit more in depth there. The rest... will give it a second round tonight...thanks so far Jim !
  15. that is NOT funny Mike Cheers, Tjobbe

  18. Can anybody comment on this ZYX Trane-Box Claude refers to ? Is it worth finding the way into my collection ? Any hints welcome... Cheers, Tjobbe

  20. my exposure to Jazz was my father having a lot of Dixie, Brubeck and Miller/Goodman in his collection and also taking me to some sunday morning Dixie sessions in Bonn during 1972/73 summer ... result was: in school I was the only one who liked the Steely Dan more than the "GlitterRock" and it never changed... I guess similar like Deus I got the RTF , BreckerBros (my favourite:HeavyMetalBeBop), Steve Morse early Dixie Dregs, and got in touch with Pat Metheny and other ECM/MPS fusion stuff in '76/77/78 while I was 15.... ok the Metheny 80/81 afterwards was a little shock similar to following some Jazz guides saying that the Bitches Brew would be Fusion ( which caused me a lot of resistance against anything with the Miles DAvis Sticker on it until I got there again via my Gil Evans period assuming that he -Gil Evans- would have had some good influence onMiles) but with the CD coming in stores and a lot of Verve, Pablo and Impulse got in print around 85 I started going backward in time listening more to Oscar Peterson, Dave Brubeck and Bill Evans..... At the end it led to a point where roughly 90% of all Rock/Pop sounds o boaring that Jazz seems to be the only alternative to listen to (beside some orchestra stuff like Berlioz, Stravinsky, Tschaikovsky, Smetana and more... the so call old time jazzer of the 19th century) Cheers, Tjobbe
  21. a kind of famous last words, but true, and I hope he got the turn again... he can do better I know..
  22. for me its one song: "Crystal Silence" which is on both of my favourite Corea's the RTF one and on the Zurich Concert with Burton... .. they are the two highlights for me that I enjoyed at that time and they both find their way on my turntable... the rest is "good" but there's not much that I would jump on...although I have some of the GRP Electric Band cheers, Tjobbe EDIT: what might describe my feelings a liitle bitter is the impression i alway had with lot hios later stuff he did as leader that he could do better ...it was never bad, but based on what you expect him to achieve...
