  1. Benny Golson -- Gettin' With It -- (New Jazz, non-DG early pressing)
  2. oh yeah, that too.
  3. I was just talking with a musician who was there when Mengelberg sat in; fascinating. He was of course a trickster and probably felt like doing some subversion. Too bad it wasn't recorded as I'd love to hear it.
  4. It's amazing that the forums have been going for as long as they have. When people ask me how I know so much about jazz (and really I don't know that much), I can say that most of it comes from here. I was on the BNBB first and migrated like many folks. Still an unbelievable resource, way more than other forms of social media. I got rid of my FB and Twitter; still keep at it with instagram but nothing can touch the big-O.
  5. amazing show. I loved SCTV reruns back in the day.
  6. on the cusp of 44.
  7. Terrible news. I had hoped to connect with him on a project this fall but it didn't come together. What a legacy.
  8. "Your Mother, If Freud's Wife Became" LOL
  9. Arista did this too... 1998 (or $19.98) on the spine of Anthony Braxton "Four Four Orchestras."
  10. Yep. I haven't read the book other than a quick scan and that kind of dug at me too.
  11. You should hear that Monterose/Bennink duo. Sonny is Sonny, but it's up there.
  12. Was J.R. Monterose over there yet in '67? He was working with Bennink, Jacobs, and René Thomas by '69 (heard on J.R. Monterose is Alive in Amsterdam, HSM 1502). His duo with Bennink on "Sonnymoon for Two" is incredible, one of the best sax-drums duos on record. I'm glad for Flurin's annotations. I have the boot files but haven't listened to them in awhile -- was saving my anticipation for this set, which I had to get a replacement for anyway. So far I've relistened only to LP1 and didn't find much to complain about. Reverb isn't a big deal and I'm not really stressed by speed issues. The Arnhem sessions audio-wise didn't bother me on first pass last month, but agree that they lopped off a bit of rhythm section interplay. That's too bad, because as we know the Europeans weren't just along for the ride.
  13. Awesome, can't wait!
  14. Here's hoping. Would love to hear the whole session someday.
  15. She played some of it on Kieran Hebden's show, archived here: https://www.nts.live/shows/neneh-cherry/episodes/neneh-cherry-5th-june-2018 "Black Elk Speaks," whooooeee... oh, and looks like it was NTS, not the Beeb.
  16. yeah, Fales has a number of musicians' papers. Bill Dixon's archives (including tapes) are there as well. Looks like NYU must be getting some extra funding for the Hemphill project, too. Very enticing.
  17. Just noticed a post of his the other day. He was indeed a very cool dude!
  18. Wow, that'll be great. Also can recommend Sarah Hennies' Spectral Malsconcities for those into "new music."
  19. yeah, there's the Lacy/Cherry split session. Neneh has the Don Cherry for sure, and has played it on the BBC.
  20. Oliver Lake seems to be in that camp as well, although for the most part when I've seen him in recent years he's stuck to the alto.
  21. I'll grab it. The suite for Henry Warner, which is Little Huey + voices, is sadly not on there. Tremendous work; perhaps they couldn't get a usable recording of it (think it was only performed live though I could be mistaken).
  22. I'm getting staggered glitches after about 11:00, digital scramble, in both streaming and downloaded versions.
