  1. agreed - for whatever reason I'd only ever had it on CD, though most of the other Westbrooks I've found on LP over the years. Since my CDs are mostly in storage I can actually listen to this copy!
  2. Most people probably grabbed the super high-dollar Blue Notes on Friday. I left with a nice stack of 25 or so records, blew my allotted amount in about 2 hours. Saw some friends but was very tired after flying back from LA and staying up with the new family cat.
  3. Mike Westbrook - Celebration - (Deram, UK stereo original) one of a few nice records I was glad to pick up at this weekend's WFMU record fair for a not-too-exhorbitant price.
  4. Yeah, really sad news -- he was tremendous.
  5. Also, no need for an umlaut -- he is from California.
  6. Yes. The NoBusiness reissue of his "Livin' Right" LP is essential and adds extra duos with Denis Charles. His newer work also sounds very good, like he hasn't skipped a beat. I think I have all of his earlier records (Hat Hut, Soul Note, sideman dates w/ Lowe, Parker, Sewelson) and there's nothing I wouldn't recommend.
  7. Rick Reed - Improvised & Experimental Music from Austin, Texas - (Ecstatic Peace) 80s and 90s recordings with John French, Dave Nuss aand Diane Murray released on the E# sublabel "Center of the Ass Run," a goof on Center of the World. Rick is a wonderful person as well as being an under-recognized and fascinating electronic musician.
  8. oh yeah, heard that earlier this AM. Excellent.
  9. The Desperate Bicycles - untitled - (Nonprofit, US) bootleg cheapo comp is pretty much the only way to get the complete recordings of this seminal UK DIY/postpunk outfit right now, as the original 7"s and 12" are tough to come by. apparently previous attempts to do above-board reissues have failed, so this'll have to do for now.
  10. as long as he didn't buy the farm.
  11. Sacred Flute Music from New Guinea: Madang -- (Quartz, UK orig) good follow up to Leo Smith's Creative Music –1 I must say...
  12. Happy Birthday Han!
  13. yeah, he was awesome with Richard & Mimi Fariña as well. RIP.
  14. Don Cherry & Krzysztof Penderecki - Actions - (Wergo, GER)
  15. if anyone wants to make an offer on the remaining 17 before I do the next batch, let me know.
  16. very sad news. RIP.
  17. I saw it in a theater not too long after it was released. It had a very short run.
  18. A Mosaic with his Savoys and Audio Fidelity/Dauntless releases would be pretty sweet. If you wanted to do it the way of Barron and Curson, you'd have to cut a couple and squeeze in a release on Fontana (Alan Bates territory...) and one on Atlantic. Surely there's some sweet unreleased stuff.
  19. dang, where are you getting your groceries?
  20. Daniel Carter, Chris Corsano & Leila Bourdueil (cello) at Union Pool in Willamsburg! Jimmy Greene Quartet at the Jazz Standard http://www.nycjazzrecord.com/issues/tnycjr201704.pdf
  21. Wonder which of these people is next to get divorced?
  22. It is. I don't love it thus far but I am learning things.
