  1. kinda wild to look at some of these album covers (and listen to their contents), realizing that everyone participating is now gone.
  2. From an interview I did with Murray in 2003. It's on the AAJ site, which I detest and refuse to drive traffic to, but if you want me to email you a pdf I'll gladly do that.
  3. Not much to say other than a hearty thanks for so many decades of great music. RIP.
  4. +1, great to see you 'round these parts, MG!
  5. thanks, consulting for now but it is not my preferred option. I suppose a lot of these reference books are like beautiful boxed sets -- great looking on the shelf and for a few flips, but not regularly out of the racks.
  6. aha! Yes, librarian/archivist here too (and looking for new employment! fun!). I would say, too, that the Sun Ra book might have more valid space in compact shelving than the J-Jazz book, even with a university acquisitions budget...
  7. yeah, '86ed from it now. Too bad.
  8. yeah, overseas cheapies are best ordered in bulk.
  9. hmm, so do I now, though it worked the first time.
  10. now the Reid I do have. Excellent. Ordered the Raushiek for a cheap price online, liked the clips I listened to.
  11. amazing, thanks so much!
  12. Okay, I have never seen that record in my life.
  13. yes, true, but in the long run print will outlive the internet as we know it. Websites go away but the image on the page will certainly last.
  14. This. RIP. Does the sammich thread still exist? I could not find it. Extremely funny as I remember...
  15. that's too bad. RIP, excellent trombonist.
  16. Ha. There is an insane amount of stuff in there and more than a few records I'd never seen or heard of, so I'd imagine you're missing some of it as well. Beautiful book and a true labor of love.
  17. yeah. Things change a lot, too -- obviously the pandemic shifted some things, but we had no idea what the Hudson Valley would become after investigating it a little pre-2020 and making the relocation push in 2020. It's great, but a lot less sleepy than it was before COVID.
  18. Just a reminder for the upstate and nearby crew that this is happening on Sunday! Doors 7/music 8ish
  19. My wife grew up in Pittsburgh. I can ask her some things about it; I was there once when I was young, and thought it was really pretty, but it's been forever since I was there. They do have excellent art museums (Carnegie, Warhol, Mattress Factory, etc), diverse neighborhoods, and lots of hilly terrain to hike/bike/walk around and explore. Pitt's jazz program is pretty top-notch and I would think that there'd be some way to get involved as a community member.
  20. yeah, 8 AM on Sunday morning is tough, even for big wantlist items...
  21. you were awake earlier than me for the Alorecord drop...
  22. Saw Ravi a couple times but never John or Alice (duh). I agree, Ravi doesn't sound all that much like his dad. But that's a subject for another thread!
  23. Yep, agreed on both counts. Kinski was also excellent in Herzog's other films including Nosferatu and Aguirre.
  24. I have Farmer's Market as a New Jazz LP, very nice one.
  25. I like this one: Also, "Mau Mau" is an incredible tune. Once I heard it I never forgot it! (doesn't hurt that the vamp on which it sits is somehow familiar... 🤔)
