  1. How about I take March for a little March Madness?
  2. Yeah, it doesn't really bother me at the end of the day. I am more concerned about whether there's non-fill or any other pressing plant bugaboos on the vinyl. The Pookie's set was not manufactured all that well.
  3. Slugs' piano was kinda rough (cf. the Rashied Ali Quintet at Slugs'). It is definitely out of tune.
  4. Lucinda Childs Twyla Tharp Andy De Groat
  5. If Dusty stocks 'em I will grab. It is a bit tiring, I must admit.
  6. I've seen more copies of Hum Dono offered for sale than I have Movement... the original is exceedingly rare. No, I don't have either...
  7. Endesha Obe -- didn't he disappear ferrying "supplies" over the Gulf of Mexico at one point? Fascinating character, regardless, and he engineered a lot of really interesting records.
  8. This was a report from a friend who got a preview copy. I have yet to hear the set.
  9. No worries! That is a full day of music... both sets were excellent. Fiedler's trio is going into the studio to record soon, and the music on that forthcoming CD is superb. They are a super tight unit, and Joe's post-Mangelsdorff multiphonic creativity is well on display.
  10. Ah, I have a few of these that I didn't identify at first... got busy and lost time to go back and play around with it some more. But a superb BFT for sure, much great listening here.
  11. Hope to see some of y'all in the Tub tonight!
  12. Yeah, that Carl Stone concert was fun! Hadn't seen him in almost 20 yrs.
  13. yeah, read that as well. Nuts.
  14. My uncle lives west of Asheville, and was out of touch until an hour or so ago. He and his house are fine, but it is a complete mess around there. Unbelievable devastation.
  15. I have that as Cecil Taylor's "Hard Driving Jazz" on United Artists, with the race car cover. It stays in T. It's a pretty strong album, actually. The band plays well with Cecil and even Dorham, who famously hated the circumstances and supposedly tried to undermine the whole thing, comes off sounding good.
  16. Saw Collier with Dave Burrell, William Parker, and William Hooker. To say he/they were taking it "there" would be an understatement.
  17. I'm told that the music is really, really intense, and fairly "out" at times. Looking forward to getting a copy. Regarding the "etc.", that was just for contractual reasons until McCoy signed with BN. IIRC anyway.
  18. aha! now I get it, yes, that makes sense. I had thought you meant it was actually their wallpaper.
  19. yep, JP Impulse LP. There's also Second Night in Tokyo, which was released a few years later, and is IMO even stronger: It is too bad that the jam sessions with Japanese musicians were not recorded. I asked Fujioka-san and he confirmed no tapes were made. Ah! I always wondered where they cribbed that pattern from. I too have AU 4950 in NM condition.
  20. Japanese original: Impulse pressing is a reissue. First came out on Coltrane Records: a few of the Atlantics and some of the early Prestige LPs did not have images of the artist, either, though he was arguably less of a household name at the time.
  21. The New York City Jazz Record
  22. Solid piece -- I'll definitely check out that Slugs' quartet date. Hopefully more from the archive makes its way to the surface... maybe even some material from his early Chicago days.
  23. I'll definitely buy this. I've not heard of the label before.
