  1. I can think of some excellent sides on US RCA-Victor: Bill Dixon - Intents and Purposes Sonny Rollins - Our Man in Jazz Sonny Meets Hawk Joe Daley - At Newport '63 Gary Burton - Duster Jeanne Lee & Ran Blake - The Newest Sound Around George Russell - Jazz Workshop Not to mention some excellent discs on European and Japanese RCA imprints by Mal Waldron, Steve Lacy, Lee Konitz, Charlie Mariano, Keith Tippett, Chris McGregor, Ray Russell, Tony Oxley...
  2. Base booted the French LP. I have another Shepp on Uniteledis, Shepp A Massy U-Jaama "Unite," which is a quintet. Don't know much about the label's history, but those Shepps do pop up a fair amount on the used market. Address is thus: 7 rue Viollet le Duc 75009 Paris. My copy of Force has this address: Producteur Uniteledis 19 av. Trudaine P 75009. Gravure et pressage Pathe Marconi. I know Base - they booted tons of shit. ESP, various small-label psych records (International Artists, for example), you name it.
  3. Original label was Uniteledis, French, and part of the Palm/Vendemiaire/Jef Gilson scene.
  4. Jerry Hahn - Ara-Be-In - (Changes) w/ Noel Jewkes, Mike White, Jack De Johnette, Ron McClure.
  5. That's a really fine set, and since right now I can't afford the original Saba and Edici LPs... Don't you mean Brilliant Circles? Fantastic record, in any event.
  6. I got a free Beatles bookmark at the rekkid sto' after work. It's pretty thin, so I'm wondering if it's a fold-down.
  7. This is pretty great. Brewer's presence definitely adds to an interesting vibe. Might I share it on my blog?
  8. Go ask him and report back! Apparently Carlos Ward and Kenny G had the same saxophone teacher in Seattle.
  9. The Ric Colbeck solo on side two, over the ostinato piano-drum pattern, is really something else and totally makes that record for me. I got it sealed years ago but I think it was $20.
  10. Rainbow or King? Or recent Capitol cheapo reissue?
  11. I think it should've been contemporaryladySF, myself.
  12. Problem with that is who's got the tapes/rights - Universal or Charly (not that the latter cares/cared about "rights"). I have been told that the America edition, as with Coursil's Black Suite, is the original but it's hard to confirm. Would've been nice to put the Wright and Howard on one disc as well as make a disc out of Coral Rock and the "Uhuru" track from Pitchin' Can. But I suppose all this stuff is floating around the share blogs anyway and there are heavier/more interesting things in this music to worry about than BYG and America reissues (there, I said it).
  13. That's been a disc that I have been curious about. Thanks for the confirmation.
  14. Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Prepare Thyself to Deal with a Miracle - (Atlantic)
  15. Wow. No, but I want to hear what you're talking about.
  16. That series is good and cheap. I have most of the reissued titles in other formats (i.e., Polydor UK, Fontana, Spiegeli, Black Lion, etc.) but you could get in the door cheap with Arista-Freedom. I think Cadence used to have them for $1.99 or $1.49 in their catalog back in the late 80s, well before I knew there was jazz other than Miles and Coltrane.
  17. Nah, haven't heard anything from Ben on it lately.
  18. Television - Marquee Moon - (Elektra butterfly label OG) Now: Death - For the Whole World to See - (Drag City)
  19. Julius Hemphill - Flat Out Jump Suite - (Black Saint)
  20. That volume is particularly good. Sunny's side is very nice as well. Saga sounds fantastic, yes...
  21. I saw Revis and Waits with Brotzmann not too long ago; it was solid though Revis was trying some William Parker double-bowing shit that didn't work too well. Kinda dropped the ball on that one, IMO. But I can imagine this set you saw being decent. V'mark's backbeat scene gets a little overdone, too, though I generally appreciate his writing when it's not "funky."
  22. Mike Bisio - In Seattle - (Silkheart) Real fine find, new for $3.
  23. Zulu Rock is supposed to be pretty incredible but I've yet to hear it. It is on CD, as most of her output. Nassau is an avant-garde post-no wave club jam; I'm therefore surprised she worked with Chet.
  24. Trane. Guess he was 40, but...
  25. Carter-Bradford Quartet - Flight for Four - (Flying Dutchman, white label promo copy)
