  1. My eyes glossed over... yeah, that way I don't have to give the Andorrans any $$.
  2. I'd like to hear this. Besides, how many recordings of Bob Fuhlrodt (or Fuhlrod, as I've seen it) are there?
  3. The Nessa reissue of Procession of the Great Ancestry is excellent also. When Chuck gets Spirit Catcher reissued this fall, pick that one up too. Then you might also want the Kabell recordings and some of the Golden Quartet.
  4. Yeah, I have a hard time imagining Jimmy Cobb getting up and going on Facebook scrabble every morning...
  5. Yeah, Triptykon is a cool record. He also cut some heavy sides with Juhani Aaltonen for Blue Master and a solo LP that are all very scarce and deserving of reissue. Nan Madol on Japo is real nice, as is another weird one-off Norwegian psychedelic fusion date called "Ode to Marilyn." Excellent player and sorely overlooked, but the reissue market being what it is... probably not surprising.
  6. At Her Majesty's is a hot one! Also, the Griffin "Lady Heavy Bottom's Waltz" is fantastic. Admittedly hoping for some nice Japanese facsimiles to make their way to the surface, because though the Rearwards are a good way to hear some of this music, I've been less impressed with the printing quality on the sleeves and have had one or two warped vinyls.
  7. From the same period, Peace Concert on Atavistic is real nice.
  8. Yeah, I think it's in their "coming soon" queue.
  9. I'll let you know if I can get a copy! Small group with Botchinsky and other Danish folks, recorded for Debut.
  10. Well, Reader doesn't always work - according to my feed, "Fucked in Park Slope" hasn't had any new stories in a year but I know there are several a day.
  11. Apparently forthcoming are a repress of the SAWANO Shihab Oktav LP as well as Sahib's Jazz Party.
  12. Cool. I've never really "got" Joe Maneri's music - almost to the point of not liking it - but that challenge has left him filed away in my mind as someone to explore further when I'm ready. His passing will certainly leave a hole.
  13. Any thoughts on the Paul Plimley/Lisle Ellis Ornette covers record? I've always thought it a little too icy, but I do enjoy Plimley with McPhee on that Sweet Freedom disc. Mike's right about Jarrett, esp. as Keith was (early on, especially) a very Bley-styled pianist.
  14. This is sad to hear though I know he'd been in seriously bad health in recent years. So long and thanks for all the music - music that I still don't understand. Source
  15. Incidentally, just got this one for review: Barry Guy & Mats Gustafsson - Sinners, Rather than Saints - (Not Two) vinyl only...
  16. Jeff: If you open the CBBB door a little wider, be prepared - a lot of really excellent material in that orbit.
  17. There's always this, too
  18. Looking forward to hearing this.
  19. Yeah, I'm starting to feel a need for growing room too. Ugh.
  20. Hey, I don't even own it.
  21. Ah, thanks. This duo is good: Ballrogg
  22. I have very little Basso in my collection but what I do have is really nice. RIP.
  23. Phineas Newborn, Jr. - Harlem Blues - (Contemporary, yellow label) In absence of Catch and in presence of Phineas.
  24. Yeah, that is a very scarce one. I believe they also share a duo on a Chant du Monde LP. Also: Kent Carter and Claude Bernard, on Kent Carter Solo with Claude Bernard (Sun).
  25. Mambo Nassau, on Z records, is really excellent. I've heard a smattering of other material that was quite good as well, but I can certainly vouch for this one. Rubbery insanity with a club-friendly polyphony.
