  1. Can't top that... Lunchtime spin: Crown Hate Ruin - Until the Eagle Grins - (Dischord)
  2. Yeah, Alan gets some nice dead stock in on occasion - I've got a few sealed rarities from the Jazz Loft as well as some nice in-print but hard to find titles.
  3. As for later/partially Afro-Cuban stuff, I really like the HARYOU Percussion Group record on ESP.
  4. My friend and I were just talking about that set the other day.
  5. I have to say, Greg, that this was a really fun review to write. Normally my tendency as a reviewer is toward avant-garde jazz and so forth. This was one CD that my girlfriend was probably glad I was writing up, for her ears' sake.
  6. Must not post much! Probably a good thing for his own sanity!

  8. Welcome. There are a few threads dealing with this subject already. Here's one: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...mp;hl=Blue+Note
  9. Cramming in some sides before work, eh?
  10. Also: Arnie Cheatham's Thing, reissued on Porter. And one that should be reissued: Leo Jones - Fire Engine & Crossover - (Mirrosonic)
  11. Groundhogs - Blues Obituary - (Imperial)
  12. I picked up a copy of James Spaulding's Brilliant Corners CD on Muse recently. Carter's in fine form here, with Marcus Miller & Kenny Washington also in the rhythm section. Miller's kind of florid for my taste normally, but he's not too distracting here and it's a pretty fiery date.
  13. I'm going to vote against brown as much as I dig the design. Black is slimming, and brown ain't the new black as far as I can see.
  14. Lunchtime spin: Sus & Jakob - The Last Vocalions - (no label) Communal hippie racket from Sweden. Nice!
  15. Thursday night ECFA are playing at Beerland in Austin, of all places. Local free-bop quartet, this time using the rhythm section of Aaron and Stefan Gonzalez. It should be fun. And cheap!
  16. Indeed. A fine man gone. I grew up well after the Cronkite age, but his voice is still familiar to me. RIP.
  17. I'm a broke record addict & I review new discs, so for me there's always a slew of things to listen to. I basically just don't have time to listen to it all and digest it. Add that to a love for 60s/70s rock, punk, American steel-string guitar music, and sprechstimmung and you could say I have a problem. That said: I battle depression and in those bleak times, I find it hard to listen to ANYthing, even the hum of the A/C. That is the only time when I "tire" of music or need silence/freedom from unopened boxed sets.
  18. Thanks. I only have the date with the Prestige Jazz Quartet and that's such a fine record...
  19. Sorry to hear that, David. Clugston's getting a good deal, though!
  20. Fred knows his shit, sometimes deals can be had and at others the prices are sky-high. My main difficulty with that place is their grading standard, or lack thereof.
  21. Yep, I saw that one. About £250 I think. Not the greatest of sleeves, didn't check the vinyl. Still, just to even see a copy is amazing. It wasn't a keeper copy... I was told that Honest Jon's moved, but did not bother with it. I forgot the name of the other place around the corner that I visited - another "basement rarities" deal, with ringworn Muse LPs at insane prices!
  22. Yeah, that's a nice article, Coley did well.
