  1. Got mine in New York, about 10 years ago... bet Jack had it cheaper!
  2. Bill Dixon, born 1925 and still active. John Carter, born 1928; Prince Lasha, born 1929 - both deceased.
  3. Well, for one thing, if it's that important why are you not using your real name here? Have you sent anything to Larry, John Litweiler, etc.?
  4. Anyone remember "Lee Mograb's Sidewinder" ? Or was that on the old BNBB?
  5. Yeah, wonder if this is the tip of the iceberg. I emailed them about the Hill and got the response they're still planning to repress it this fall.
  6. Beat me to it! Amazon marketplace here I come...
  7. Yeah, the Pacific Jazz is now gone & Amazon sellers have 'em at crazed prices unless they're "used."
  8. Ah yes, also an AEC reference!
  9. I think it's more a testament to how shaky things are in this business as a whole. Also, I assume, how unreliable EMI is as a source/safe haven for archival and back catalog material.
  10. When payday arrives, I'm hopeful that the Pacific Jazz piano set will still be there.
  11. Now if somebody has a juice called Ntasiah... or at least Red Black & Green, I might buy it on BAG principle.
  12. That one is one of the best Selects in my view. Wonderful music by (in alphabetical order ) Clare Fischer, Russ Freeman, Jimmy Rowles and Richard Twardzik. Yeah, I should get it too.
  13. Yeah, I know, but...
  14. I wonder about the Hill BN set. I didn't get it when it was "around" earlier and had heard it'd be "back."
  15. Yeah, I definitely drink Odwalla because of the AEC reference, BUT they pushed a local juice maker out of business about a year ago that had infringed on their market share. Business is business, I know, but couldn't they all just get along? Huh?
  16. Well, if you stick around you'll learn a lot here. I agree that "self-taught" is a bit of a misnomer in most cases.
  17. Great news, brownie. Haven't talked to him in some time but I should do so.
  18. It might have fed his ego but would have sold even fewer copies.
  19. Apparently still in print. On my list.
  20. That's a good question about the Jazz Life series. There were two Roeling covers with this as the alternate (the other being Ted Curson's Urge). Quite a number of bop sessions were issued in this series - Dexter Gordon, Bud Powell, Howard McGhee's Sharp Edge, etc., as well as pre-bop material. I suspect they were nearly contemporaneous, as the catalog numbers did not change between Roeling and Jazz Life issues.
  21. Indeed, I'll check out anything with Dennis/Denis Charles in the mix. Anyone heard his Silkheart date with Booker T?
  22. I'll add the excellent Masahiko Togashi LP We Now Create, on Victor Japan, to the list. But the notes are in Japanese, so I can't tell you how decently written they are.
  23. Well, to be fair, that's not really a "jazz" record or conceived as such. He got the Red Seal of a classical record. Dixon should have, too (he'd requested that, as a matter of fact), but...
  24. Just a bump to wish Marion a happy 74th birthday today!
