  1. A note for those in the EU, the book is now available for direct order & shipping from the RogueArt website. https://roguart.com/product/singularity-codex-matthew-shipp-on-rogueart/222 For those of you in NYC it can be purchased at Mast Books, Karma Bookshop, Village Works, Academy Records (E 12th), Downtown Music Gallery, and Jazz Record Center... more to follow once distributors stock it (which shouldn't be too long). Thanks!
  2. I like what Jim said, "courage personified." To a t.
  3. Incredible artist and human on so many levels. Brötzmann was the first musician I ever interviewed and he was extremely kind and patient as well as being incredibly deep. Unforgettable experience just to be around him not only in a performance setting but a few social situations as well. Thank you, PB.
  4. Yes, from what I have been able to ascertain. There are two subsequent volumes.
  5. I don't have it and it's incredibly rare, but this one also comes to mind: https://books.google.com/books/about/Jazz_record_book_Free_jazz.html?id=KAcnHQAACAAJ Includes thumbnail images of all titles mentioned in the book.
  6. Wonderful interview, thanks.
  7. Thanks!
  8. Some people seem to be living in an alternate reality, and this expurgator is certainly one of those...
  9. I don't agree with his political/social views at all (i.e., homophobia and anti-abortion) but I do think he is a fantastic saxophonist and musician. The "Streets" persona was not in full view on the occasions I saw him perform. It's unlikely he will perform or record again due to ongoing health issues but I could be wrong about that. For what it's worth I interviewed him several years ago and found him to be a very kind man and an affable, intriguing conversationalist.
  10. Nice! Who else is in the band, other than Dennis & Sangrey?
  11. Just seeing this now -- too bad. His first LP on Takoma is swell.
  12. Yeah, that's what Mtume told me too regarding how the S/E business model worked.
  13. Descendants is a great record. I too need to scoop a copy of this.
  14. good piece, thanks for sharing.
  15. cool -- I have a reissue of the quartet record he did with Bob Berg for Union but that's all (nice album).
  16. I'll pick up this new BBE session -- have originals of his earlier leader albums. My Dear is a favorite in particular, but they're all strong and quite varied in subtle ways. Am intrigued by the dates with Mal and have 'em in my Discogs wants, but have yet to hear them... of course his work with Yamashita is incredible.
  17. Indeed! Also worked with Pärson Sound etc.
  18. Frontier was Jordan's scuttled label (where all the Dolphy Series LPs were originally destined to go), and that is possibly the case, yes.
  19. Yeah, it depends on the drummer I guess. Snooze, a trio with Billy Hart and Cecil McBee, is quite strong.
  20. Like the clip I heard on NPR very much. Will definitely be picking up the CD. Hopefully not as bass-boomy as other recent Impulse! CD titles (Monk; Blue World).
  21. Not lost. My guess is that the materials were unprocessed, or perhaps a section of the archives was not given item-level cataloging. It really depends and is no fault of the archives/archivist, especially given the sheer size of the NYPL PAA collections.
  22. yeah, Clint Houston. She is on his record Watership Down as well, which is good.
