  1. Been playing this one on LP for much of the day. Outstanding compilation in stunningly clear sound.
  2. Wasn’t planning on getting this one but on the evidence of the sound samples the music and tangible club atmosphere is brilliant. With Gearbox doing the honours, can’t go wrong !
  3. Roland Kirk on Gearbox Records - Ronnie Scott’s, 1963. With Stan Tracey, Malcolm Cecil and Ronnie Stephenson.
  4. Yes, ordered for overnight delivery. Both ‘Space Walk’ and the double do come with the download voucher. Thanks for mentioning - completely overlooked that. The only negative I find with that 2LP version is that the two single CDs (and the Mosaic) include some very good extra tracks.
  5. The other new Decca reissue, 2LP set. Fantastic selection, first track from ‘Windmill Tilter’ in superior sound to the BGO CD reissue. Also comes with a very comprehensive booklet essay. Don Rendell ‘Space Walk’ from this series also a winner. Augurs well...
  6. So far, so good. Nicely done.
  7. The new vinyl reissue on Decca.
  8. The vinyl for this one seems to have been pulled from tomorrow’s RSD - at least over here. Same with the Charles Lloyd.
  9. Yes, he was already getting on by then - but was soloing quite nicely still. His sound of course remained totally unique. The other half of the bill had Illinois Jacquet and his orchestra. That one had the feet tapping more than a bit.
  10. Saw Tate with Harry Edison and Urbie Green back in 1991/92 I think. Venue was NY Town Hall - the stage of which was still recognisable to me from the Monk LP cover.
  11. Didn’t the master tapes for that one go missing back in the early 1970s due to negligence? - or maybe it was even earlier around the time of Mingus’ eviction. There’s a thread somewhere on this site telling the full story and I recall board member Brownie mentioning that he got a copy of the original LPs by mail from Mingus himself, complete with letter !
  12. Tempo, mono. Fine British hard bop session, one of the best things ever put out on Tempo. Issued in the US as ‘The Hooter’.
  13. Deuchar was still London-based I believe until at least mid 1965, then joined the Edelhagen Orchestra in Germany. This suggests that the 1968 date is probably accurate.
  14. I think that’s correct. If I remember correctly he was in and out of hospital during that period and had married the (English born) nurse who had looked after him in the hospital. I remember hearing her story on a BBC Radio interview talking about Tadd many decades ago.
  15. Yes, he was in the Ronnie Scott house rhythm section in the mid 60s. That one is from Jazz 625 I think. Venue - the Marquee? RIP - a very solid bassist.
  16. Some interesting comments on that Strut 45rpm Lanquidity reissue: https://www.hifiaf.com/lanquidity-shootout/
  17. These radio recordings are great..
  18. Same here. Rearward 180g LP + CD s signed by Ron
  19. Rearward LP and CD edition
  20. That rugby ball/roundel reminds me of the face of a person who shall remain nameless.
  21. Never saw Mingus but I did see the ‘Mingus Dynasty’ with Knepper, Richmond, Adams and Pullen (plus Johnny Coles) very shortly after Mingus’ passing. That ‘Atlantic Years’ twofer LP set was one of the first things I ever bought - still a favourite.
  22. Reel-to-Real 2LP. Kevin Gray has done a good mastering job on this one. Land is typically top notch, as is Carmell Jones.
