  1. Didn’t the master tapes for that one go missing back in the early 1970s due to negligence? - or maybe it was even earlier around the time of Mingus’ eviction. There’s a thread somewhere on this site telling the full story and I recall board member Brownie mentioning that he got a copy of the original LPs by mail from Mingus himself, complete with letter !
  2. Tempo, mono. Fine British hard bop session, one of the best things ever put out on Tempo. Issued in the US as ‘The Hooter’.
  3. Deuchar was still London-based I believe until at least mid 1965, then joined the Edelhagen Orchestra in Germany. This suggests that the 1968 date is probably accurate.
  4. I think that’s correct. If I remember correctly he was in and out of hospital during that period and had married the (English born) nurse who had looked after him in the hospital. I remember hearing her story on a BBC Radio interview talking about Tadd many decades ago.
  5. Yes, he was in the Ronnie Scott house rhythm section in the mid 60s. That one is from Jazz 625 I think. Venue - the Marquee? RIP - a very solid bassist.
  6. Some interesting comments on that Strut 45rpm Lanquidity reissue: https://www.hifiaf.com/lanquidity-shootout/
  7. These radio recordings are great..
  8. Same here. Rearward 180g LP + CD s signed by Ron
  9. Rearward LP and CD edition
  10. That rugby ball/roundel reminds me of the face of a person who shall remain nameless.
  11. Never saw Mingus but I did see the ‘Mingus Dynasty’ with Knepper, Richmond, Adams and Pullen (plus Johnny Coles) very shortly after Mingus’ passing. That ‘Atlantic Years’ twofer LP set was one of the first things I ever bought - still a favourite.
  12. Reel-to-Real 2LP. Kevin Gray has done a good mastering job on this one. Land is typically top notch, as is Carmell Jones.
  13. Kane woke up ! Significantly better performance tonight though.
  14. J&R in NYC - I remember that place, not far from the Twin Towers site. Never got beyond the jazz CD section though (impressive in itself).
  15. Looks like SF would be ‘Sonus Faber’ the speaker manufacturer and this is a parts display box with wood finishes available, example parts etc. to use during sales/demos.
  16. Advance issue of this RSD release. The home-recorded sound is more than acceptable and the music intriguing. A few understandable fluffs from some of the band in places as they get their head around the tunes but Taylor (who apparently preferred not to be playing his own work) doesn’t put a foot wrong. In that respect, he reminds me of Monk. This is a valuable new issue - comes with a great Taylor bio booklet and a nice little poster.
  17. Other than a bit of writing on the insert saying ‘BMG Club’ they were the full deal. I recall at the time this deal was North America only and not available in Europe. Twas always thus..
  18. My copy was virtually a freebie - one of those ‘BMG Club’ issues that they used to do in North America back in the 90s to welcome punters into the fold. I think it was 5 CDs for $10 Cdn or something crazy. Good selections on offer too.
  19. I remember ‘The Cutting Edge’ as the current Sonny album on Milestone just as I was getting into jazz, frequently seen in the racks but I only heard it much later.
  20. The trombone style and intonation on track 8 has a hint of 60s Roswell Rudd about it. From one of his Impulse appearances? Having said that, there’s some Mangelsdorffian overtones at times. Track 10 - Would that be Joe Locke on vibes, with Tim Garland on flute and soprano? The vibes have influence of Hutcherson and Burton but I don’t think it’s either of those guys.
  21. Would track 3 be by that Blakey band with Terence Blanchard, Donald Harrison and Mulgrew Miller? Track 6 is the Jazz Crusaders ‘Freedom Sound’ I think, on PJ. Wilton Felder, Wayne Henderson, Joe Sample, Stix Hooper. On bass I think it was Jimmy Bond. Track 9 Sonny Rollins ‘A House Is Not A Home’. Wasn’t that one on the ‘Cutting Edge’ album? That would be with Bob Cranshaw, David Lee, Masuo on guitar and Rufus Harley on soprano. There’s a great video version of this one filmed at Ronnie Scott’s.
  22. My copy is a NY mono with double sided deep groove. An unusual combination. Can’t go wrong with a new stylus or retipping !
