  1. Found a copy today of this rare Monk 10inch Esquire - the Monk trios. Sonics - superb, with the mono switch on.
  2. The Brazilian disk.
  3. I remember seeing Buck Clayton’s band (minus Buck - who had passed away about 6 months previously) at Town Hall in NYC in the early 90s. Fond memories.
  4. Classic Records 200g reissue
  5. Always enjoyed that one. Donald Byrd’s early Blue Notes are all winners.
  6. Theresa LP - great stuff. Sadly just a reissue but sounds good enough to me !
  7. The last time I caught Miles and co. live in 1990 they played material from ‘Amandla’ and also some of the Rubberband stuff I think. Witnessed live, it came across stronger than on CD/LP.
  8. I hear you ! I was not entirely correct about the statement concerning our weather. Did catch a bit of tan at the airshow at RAF Cosford last weekend. Saturday morning brew..
  9. Still pouring it down over here - and definitely not in the high 90s. Summer came and went on Easter weekend. More this sort of weather..
  10. I was never a fan of those Norah Jones releases but will never knock it as it helped open the CD reissue floodgates and provided affordable and readily available Conn reissues of all those previous rarities. Needs must !
  11. I wondered who this new member was.... Happy Birthday !
  12. There’s also those 1st generation copies sent to the UK and used for the 1960s HMV and UK Impulse vinyl - also 70s UK Impulse I think. Some of those were accessed in the past for CD reissues. Hopefully they still exist and were not caught up in this disaster.
  13. ‘Trombone By Three’ (Esquire, mono). Another £3 sleeveless special - Kai Winding, JJ and Bennie Green sessions from Prestige, RVG in the runout. Very good sound - in fact this LP looks unplayed. My guess is that this, like the Lester Young, was old warehouse stock which has been rediscovered. If anyone has a spare sleeve, let me know.
  14. Looks like it, thanks for that. Strange - those Charlie Parkers were put out by a small label called Egmont in the UK so not sure how this one ended up on Esquire.
  15. Lester Young ‘Pres’ (Esquire). Mystery live lo-fi recording and no sleeve. Still, at £3 a good find. Quick research indicates that this LP has material also put out on Ambrosia from 1952 Birdland recordings with Jesse Drakes and Wynton Kelly. Boris Rose?
  16. And in considerably better sound than the boomy, rolled-off CTI vinyl.
  17. Always thought I remember seeing someone who looked like him at that venue smoking humungous cigars so maybe it was him and at that gig !
  18. Bertoncini used to do a regular Western Canada Summer season each year gigging around town, usually with bass accompaniment. Caught him once or twice - should have done so more often. An excellent player.
