  1. Yes, white label from the mid 1960s.
  2. Blimey - saw the two of them in 1989. They must be joined at the hip !
  3. Whenever I see that album, I think ‘1975’.
  4. Funilly enough, I prefer the sound for the side 1 tracks on the 24000 series ‘Sonny Rollins’ 2LP set. Found the Transatlantic by chance a while back - didn’t cost much either.

    Jackie McLean

    Cheers for that !
  6. Rumour has it that Jazzman will be reissuing the individual albums on vinyl in March or April.
  7. I saw him a number of times over the years at Scott’s - on one occasion he was part of a double bill with Prof. Irwin Corey (!) The band always had Billy Higgins and David Williams in the lineup - sometimes it was just his trio, on other occasions ‘Eastern Rebellion’ with tenor. On one occasion with the trio, had an amiable short chat with Cedar and he confirmed that he had just recorded with Milt Jackson and was about to head out to Back Bay, CA to do a week of gigs. Must have been about 1983. Over the years I saw him solo, trio, with ‘Eastern Rebellion’ and with George Coleman (post-Rebellion). Last time I saw him was in 1999 I think, free open-air gig in LA with George Coleman, David Williams and the irreplaceable Mr. Higgins. He was consistently excellent when seen live - without exception.

    Jackie McLean

Enjoyed this very much - it makes a nice update/supplement to the ‘Jackie McLean on Mars’ documentary on Rhapsody Films.
  9. A familiar sight on that very piano.
  10. I see Amancio D’Silva ‘Integration’ is up there at number 25. Great album (and reissued very well too). Those Miles Davis Mosaic vinyls are to hang on to !
  11. Most of the BGO reissues of the Vertigo/Capitol albums are still available - I would start with ‘Elastic Rock’ / ‘We’ll Talk About It Later’. ’UK Tour ‘76’ is also a personal favourite. Board Member RogerF also has an excellent Ian Carr/Nucleus Tribute website which should be first port of call for info (as well has his book). ‘Elastic Rock’ is something of a transitional album with a bit of a Rendell/Carr feel. Not to forget ‘Greek Variations’ under Neil Ardley’s name either - although that could be hard to get hold of.
  12. From the Elvin Mosaic box. Nice to see footage of him last night on the BBC4 Stewart Copeland programme and recognition of his massive influence on rock.
  13. The BGO CDs are really excellent but with the Jazzman LPs I am hearing some additional fine details and nuances that the BGOs lack. Much of the music (for example ‘Phase III’) makes great use of texture, timbre and space, so this additional detail is valuable. The SHM-CDs and HD downloads therefore offer very attractive alternatives. Considering that 15 years ago most of this stuff most of this music would have cost many hundreds of £ to acquire and listen to, these are times of great plenty for the Rendell/Carr catalogue. The one time I met Ian C. he seemed surprised and genuinely delighted that I not only had copies of but also really liked the Rendell/Carr releases. I think he would have been stunned with the current cornucopia situation.
  14. As predicted !
  15. Sorry to hear this, RIP. I will dig out the Nessa Art Ensemble 67-68 box this weekend.
  16. I have a Larry Young ‘Into Somethin’’ in this series which was taken from the TOCJ I believe. Sounds excellent.
