  1. That must have been when you ran me a version
  2. Thanks for posting the list ! I was hoping a stray Mildred Bailey box might have been found..
  3. I asked for one but didn’t hear back.
  4. My old cutout copy bought from Mole Jazz back in the day ! Tony Williams was using tree trunks as sticks on LP1..
  5. Bob Cranshaw and Butch Warren must be in the frame. Jackie McLean and Hank Mobley - so many fine sideman appearances in addition to their own sessions. I would put Billy Higgins high up too.
  6. Carla Bley/Steve Swallow ‘Night Glo’ (Watt/ECM)
  7. I remember seeing Workshop de Lyon at the Bath Festival one year (when they still featured jazz ).
  8. Or the Vogue LAC vinyl !
  9. First time I saw him was a Parker tribute in 1980 and the most recent was when he had turned 80 and playing like a 30 year old. Incredible, must be on monkey glands. Happy Birthday Mr Haynes !
  10. Michael Horowitz/Pete Brown/New Departures ‘Blues For The Hitchiking Dead’ (Gearbox 2LP box set) Band with Stan Tracey, Bobby Wellins, Jeff Clyne, John Mumford and Laurie Morgan. Lo fi but historic.
  11. Happy Birthday, wherever you are (2) !
  12. Big favourite of mine - had it on vinyl for many years and recently picked up the Japanese mid price European CD issue, which sounds great. Danny Richmond is outstanding on it IMO - wasn’t this his first jazz session after some years playing rock? Adams and Pullen are in good form too. Also like the compositions on this one. I prefer it to the ‘Changes 1 and 2’ releases but will have to revisit those.
  13. 1981 UK TV Shorty Rogers With NYJO Amazed to find this on the NYJO archive - I remember hearing about this Shorty Rogers tour but didn’t realise it had been filmed for BBC daytime TV. ‘Pebble Mill at One’, BBC Birmingham.
  14. Obviously closed to us old world residents and only valid up to $100. Still, ‘never look a gift horse in the mouth’, as they say.
  15. The Dave Holland ‘Overtime’ for my money is one of the greatest big band recordings of the last 20 years. I have given it repeated well earned re-spins over the past few days. Sounds to me to have been influenced a bit by ‘Windmill Tilter’ in the layered sound - a huge triumph all round.
  16. Interesting. My Jaco Pastorius set by this label was a fine pressing in excellent sound. Maybe a quirk?
  17. Some nice Cannonball on this 2LP set. LP1 has the John Benson-Brooks ‘Concerto’ material. LP2 has the ‘African Waltz’ large group stuff.
  18. Yeah, wasn’t expecting to find it. The same shop also had a Rendell/Carr ‘Dusk Fire’ at just less than £500. Not sure what condition it is in..
