  1. That ‘It Club’ set sounds great on the vinyl.
  2. I don’t think I ever saw a physical copy of the likes of ‘Inner Urge’ until I bought the Pathe Marconi around 1984. In fact I bought it on the spot (Festival Hall), as much out of surprise/delight than anything. Having said that, Mole had some of these titles as Japanese imports but that was out of my price league.. Anyway, enough of this waffle...... back to ‘ Blue Note sidemen’..
  3. Don’t think so - 61 to 63 on CD and 2LP vinyl I think. 64 is on vinyl as a single disk but for some reason not on CD. This label is run by guys who are into ‘mod’ music hence the focus on this time period I guess. There are some real rarities on there e.g. music from some of the Shake Keane Columbia EPs. Sound quality is fine, if maybe a little compressed.
  4. It’s listed in the latest hard copy catalogue just arrived in the mail - they give it a ‘recommended’ tag.
  5. ‘Black Forest Gateaux’ What is that? - I can hear our German board members say.. Washed down with a crate of ‘Blue Nun’, of course
  6. There’s a whole series of them, done by year. CD1 covers British jazz on LP and 45rpm releases of the period with an R&B feel. CD2 has contemporary releases mainly on 45rpm put out by Prestige, Jazzland, Argo etc. Sam Lazar was a big discovery for me, of these items.
  7. Just noticed that the latest Jazzmessengers catalogue is listing both the Wilson and Savory sets so that is now an option over this side of the pond. I’ll probably go that route with the Savory.
  8. That rings a bell with me. Circa 1975 when Blue Note in the racks here in UK meant Donald Byrd ‘Places and Spaces’, Ronnie Laws, aforementioned Lou LPs with garish covers and not much else. Then the Brown Bag twofer series from Mesrs Lourie and Cuscuna appeared like a ‘mana from heaven’.
  9. Scott confirmed that my order would go out by end of next week so that jibes with the timing per the above for the Teddy Wilson set. ’Pilgrimage’ sums it up well Jordan. It would be ahead of the likes of Santiago de Compostela on my list.
  10. I remember having a meal in a ‘German’ place in Western Canada. Bland, uninspiring lumpen food and an insult to the original. I found much better fare of this type at Jasper Park Lodge in the Rockies.
  11. Hank Mobley ‘Third Season’
  12. CD7 of the Armstrong Live box. Very impressive.
  13. Resistance is futile..(I’m buckling fast)
  14. Essential listening !
  15. About 10 years ago I got to see a viewing of the documentary on Martino and his medical condition which had a question panel with Pat himself. A fascinating evening. The whole thing was sponsored by a medical body (Welcome Foundation, I think).
  16. A technicolour pressing of ‘Cosmic Eye/Dream Sequence’.
  17. Brad - Great report and sounds like the open house was lots of fun. I’ve managed to bundle a few things in with an order for the new Teddy Wilson set, with Scott’s kind assistance.
  18. and disturbingly close to the truth !
  19. I’m looking forward to this being streamed. Last time I saw him was with his quartet in a club in Southern California in 1999. I think it was at Steamers in Fullerton.
  20. Some of these are ‘signed by producer’ so either Ricky or Scott - hence odds on it’s Scott W.
