Anyone worked out what that Chinese waitress martial arts sub-plot was all about on 'Deutschland 83' ?

Not many news items these days leave me totally stunned but this one has. RIP - not a major fan but a very interesting and innovative artist (sort of like Miles in a way) and his absence will leave a big void out there. Only just reading about his early Beckenham Arts Lab days yesterday.

London Jazz Collector on his site mentions meeting and chatting with Maxine at one of Gearbox Record's regular vinyl listening sessions in London a while back and not previously knowing the Dexter connection. They recently put out a 'Soy Califa' LP by Dexter so she must have been there as part of that.

The Henry Lowther has already been issued on CD by Vocalion (who did an excellent job) and by some other company since then so that one is pretty well superfluous. Other than the SME the Colbeck is the only one of interest and as I have a pristine UK Fontana vinyl of this one I'll likely pass.

'Exercise Able Archer' - isn't that the one where paranoid commies (Andropov and co) totally misinterpreted a routine NATO exercise as evidence of war preparations - until someone got on the phone to calm them down and put them right. Interesting program - just working my way through it. They overdo it a we bit with the 'Nena' music though.
