  1. Lovely ! - Can't beat the old flipback jacket.
  2. CD's are not inferior to vinyl no matter what kind of system you're listening to. That's simply some nonsense that audiophiles who want everyone to think are on the cutting edge of sonic reproduction want others to think. I said nothing about CDs being inferior to vinyl. Read carefully.
  3. Macb*th Lady Macb*th Elelda Marcos
  4. Two copies?!! that's just greedy! (if one's feeling ignored....) The second one I actually picked up from ebay as a vinyl only, no sleeve. I think it was a batch that was sold off by Evan Parker from NYC. Cost about $10-15 at the time. Use it as a play copy.
  5. Hmm - I quite like it. Time to dig it out.. Kenny Wheeler 'Song For Someone' (Incus)
  6. Yes, that is a fair point. Exclusively on vinyl seems daft !
  7. Just checked my Incus copies of 'Song For Someone'. The original is black label with white text. I also have another (later) pressing with white label and black text that originates from the late 70s I think. The earlier pressing has a very clear 'INCUS 10' in the runout, which is worth checking for the early pressings. Not sure if this helps your question - paging Clifford!
  8. No doubt. Which makes it a niche market. Why produce material only for that niche market? I don't see it as a solely 'niche' market at all. It's an alternative medium for those that want it and can get the benefit of it. I can think of very few sessions that have been released just 'vinyl only' of late (Gearbox Records excluded, perhaps). For Blue Note for example you now have the choice of Music Matters (45rpm vinyl, work-out freaks), ordinary vinyl (Scorpio, Heavenly Sweetness etc), those Japanese super high res CDs, ordinary CDs or MP3s. I don't think we've ever had it better, to be honest. Certainly beats the old days of the 'no effect on pound in your pocket' and choice of warped/recycled vinyl or nothing. Usually nothing..
  9. Suprised to hear that - being an 'audiophile' company and all that. I'm sure that they will replace without quibble - don't have any of their releases so can't comment further as to whether this is a common problem.
  10. FYI, Neil's releasing Time Fades Away on vinyl for Record Store Day - only available as a 4-LP set with On The Beach, Tonight's The Night, and Zuma. Not sure if this is available where you are. http://pitchfork.com/news/54191-neil-young-reissuing-time-fades-away-for-the-first-time-on-record-store-day/ Thanks. But I get even more impatient with 'vinyl only' nonsense. Music turned into some sort of fetish for people who want to feel exclusive. I bought something on vinyl a few weeks back for the first time in 25 years. Glad to have the music but the format has no interest for me. Pain in the neck transferring into usable mp3s. No issue with things coming out on vinyl - there's a demand for it and the market responds. But given that most people buy on CD or download (or stream), I can't see the point of locking it away in some elite cubbyhole. Grrr! Vinyl is only worth worrying about if you have the playback kit to do it justice. In which case, it can be superlative. Otherwise stick to CDs or MP3s.
  11. Just ordered a copy of the 'Sammy Lee' soundtrack on vinyl. Looks like the session line-up is unknown so it will be interesting doing a bit of detective work on this.
  12. I was just listening to Lem Winchester 'Lem's Beat' and reading their 2-star review yesterday and thinking 'were they listening to the same album'?
  13. I think that's the first time I've seen a listing for "Jim Cobb". Yeah, same here. This morning: Charlie Rouse 'Takin' Care of Business' (UK Riverside reel/mike/mono)
  14. Alexander Orlov Oleg Sergei
  15. Curtis Fuller 'Soul Trombone' (Impulse, mono)
  16. No-Sh*t Sherlock Shergar Red Rum
  17. Excellent find for a great box !
  18. Hissing Sid Artful Owl Captain Beaky
  19. 'Sounds of the Universe'? - Don't know that one. Any good? I like JSngry's suggestion - look forward to the day when we can rent a droid by the hour as a surrogate anywhere on the planet to go digging the second hand LP racks for us and beam back pictures of any findings pending a 'buy' command from home base. May well turn into robot wars in some stores though..
  20. 'Rays' before they shifted it upstairs is probably the nearest equivalent I guess. Second your sentiment - it is criminal that a city the size and importance of London doesn't have such a specialist emporium these days.
  21. Lem Winchester 'Lem's Beat' (Esquire, mono RVG)
  22. I see there's a Mosaic box up on the wall !
  23. Marvin Stamm 'Machinations' (Verve, stereo)
  24. As a big Kenny Graham fan I am thrilled to hear this and hope that Johnny T. dues an advance order for his e-mail subscribers as he did with 'Moondog and Suncat Suite'. Graham was a most talented tenor player and arranger - very sadly he ended up in his later years as a janitor in a block of flats, major loss to the jazz scene here. The film is likely to be pretty tame - anything stronger than the TV Test Card got an 'X' cert here back then..
