  5. The first 10 seconds or so of 'Autumn Leaves' is absolutely sublime. Never fails to raise the hairs on the back of my neck ! What it must have been like to witness in person (paging Brownie?) I can only imagine.
  6. King Canute's throne?
  7. I'd put the Johnny Mercer in the same category as the Bobby Hackett. Jazz quotient not that great but an interesting, enjoyable listen in the best tradition of Mosaic and some fine musicianship. The Capitol studio sound is good too. I've listened to the Hackett in full a few times on Spotify and like what I heard - it's going to be an order from me I think (last minute trigger push no doubt).
  8. That 1607 one was for a West Country sunami up the Bristol Channel - reputedly.
  9. Like it a lot - it gets played a lot (and I have pretty well all of it on vinyl, which reflects well on the sound quality of the Select). Wouldn't want to be without it - but then again I'm a big time fan of Booby. Good way to get hold of the rare 'Inner Glow' session too. Hill Select, Dizzy Box and Hutcherson Select. All 'must haves' in my book.
  10. Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of these incoming white bits.. Hope everyone's OK up there.

Fond memories of seeing him play with Bobby Watson's 'Horizon' a couple of decades ago. His recordings with Woody Shaw are great too.

  16. Yes, Henry Grimes with Andrew Cyrille. I sat through the BBC 'Jazz Legends' broadcast interview with Grimes too, if my memory of that day is correct.
  17. I saw that Dunmall/Profound Sound gig too - very good it was too. It has to be more than one good gig per day to entice me to travel up there and back these days though. Too bad.
  18. 2014 Cheltenham line-up now out. Other than Billy Cobham, Anorak and Siegal's group, nothing of interest to me. Mainly the usual crooners and their adoring fans. I'll pass.. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-festivals/10628621/Cheltenham-Jazz-Festival-2014-line-up-announced.html

  24. My UK edition of Agharta is nice and sober with orange labels . It also has great sound. Yep, I bought my UK copy back in 1975/76 and was blown away with the sound even then, on my naff music centre (and I did follow Miles' inner sleeve instruction to crank the volume to 11). Incredibly, those LPs are still near-mint.
