  1. A bit earler - Carla Bley 'Heavy Heart' (German Watt)
  2. No complaints about the sound of Charles Lloyd's 'The Flowering Of..' from me. Another Exped beckons to pick up the rest of the Charles Lloyd titles in this series.
  3. Lew Grade Lou Donaldson Aric
  4. Sidewinder -- on my system, the Lloyd discs in particular are all noticeable improvements on the Collectables CDs. Some of these sessions (Soundtrack, for example), might not have been recorded well in the first place, so even with an "upgrade," they are okay at best. The Collectables CDs are consistently poorly mastered, so I have welcomed these Japanese Warners as replacements, even if they aren't in the same league as the recent Japanese BNs and CTIs. Thanks. So far only sampled the 'Svengali' but it sounds fine. I think I'll be picking up quite a few of these ! - sort of reminds me of the German Atlantic 'That's Jazz' series on vinyl back in the 70s (the ones with the trendy silver foil covers) when so much of this stuff was previously scarce over here. This series is even better though - some real obscurities (Fred Kaz?) My 'Flowering of...' CD is an upgrade from an Atlantic cutout cassette picked up for 50p in about 1976. One of those cassettes with the solid plastic cases and paper cover.
  5. I've just picked up 3 of them for £5 each from FOPP - Charles Lloyd 'Flowering of...', Duke Pearson 'Prairie Dog' and Gil Evans 'Svengali'. If I like the mastering of the Lloyd I'll go for some of the other titles of his.
  6. It must be Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins. John Taylor and Kenny Wheeler well up there too.. and McCoy..
  7. Looks like the Bath Festival in May is returning to the Jazz Weekend format again, at least according to 'Jazzwise'. Promising !
  8. Andrew Hill Select now on last chance....
  9. I'd go and seem them again like a flash.. The last lineup of the group I saw had Melton Mustafa, Ed Simon and Essiet Essiet in it I think.
  10. Ordered - along with the Handy and a few others. Blakey 'Hard Bop' now on Last Chance.. Obviously you got the last Handy set. Gone now! My copy is on 'reserve' at HQ along with the Zeitlin and it will be shipped once the new Roland Kirk vinyl comes onstream. Jeez ! Not your typical Mosaic website review..
  11. Happy Birthday Mike - treat yourself to those Mosaic Selects !
  12. Ordered - along with the Handy and a few others. Blakey 'Hard Bop' now on Last Chance..
  13. Piper at the gates of Dawn Dawn French Martial Solal
  14. She crops up from time to time on TV over here and to my mind she looks even better now than she did 'back in the day'.
  15. Happy Birthday John - hope it's a great one !
  16. Happy Birthday !
  17. Denny Zeitlin Mosaic Select now on 'last chance'.
  18. Yes, it's the Silk Street music store that I was thinking of. Always pass it on the way in - and invariably get disoriented every time I visit the place. Maybe it is all that Brutalism gone mad !
  19. Was that the music shop just before you get to the Barbican main entrance? Always looked well stocked but have never been in. HMV is starting to be a joke - unless you want to buy their DVD movies I guess. Forget anything to do with jazz. I popped into the Bath branch some time back and didn't linger for long.
  20. Happy Birthday !
  21. Robert Smith of The Cure looks like the late Liz Taylor on a bad hair day.. Eurythmics and Alison Moyet are looking in good nick..
  22. The only guy with a load of hair left is the one from Haircut One Hundred.
  23. Taling of ebay madness, anyone else see that Coltrane Alternate Village Vanguard twofer from the 70s that went for $237. Now that's what I call beyond insane ! Or maybe it comes with a free sealed 'Cosmic Music' http://www.ebay.com/itm/JOHN-COLTRANE-w-ERIC-DOLPHY-OTHER-VILLAGE-VANGUARD-SEALED-ORIG-IMPULSE-2-LP-SET-/141188321359?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=uvFhc0RPommnfJ9V90%252B%252FaDDm6qY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc About as risky and bubbly-implosive as current real estate prices in London, NY, Vancouver etc.
  24. The original LP is awful! Too damn right ! Thin vinyl and semi-warped from the 'ABC' era. The Mosaic is going to be a revelation after that.
