  1. Nice finds - I think my 'Golden Striker' was a fiver, alberit US Atlantic mono version.
  2. Great post ! Stories like that one are a reminder that Mosaic is in a league of its own for this type of reissue.
  3. One of these air plugs for my phono stage..
  4. Alan Skidmore 'One Upon A Time' (Deram Nova, stereo) Bobby Hutcherson 'Happenings' (BN NY USA, stereo)
  5. I think they called them 'prairie oysters' in Alberta. I kept well away.. Having said that, looking at a picture of these things they look suspiciously like an annonymous pub appetizer dish I used to enjoy with a beer. I thought it was savoury meatballs..

Hmmm - all of the stuff that was £2.99 a few weeks ago is now 3 times as much. Classic BOGOF !
  7. I keep forgetting that I must have seen Ronnie Scott play at least 10 times. The late Martin Drew even more than that I think.
  8. Thanks, I was just chewing on my breakfast.. What...a full English? No - porridge !
  9. Tripe ! Thanks, I was just chewing on my breakfast..
  10. I saw them in the group 'Sleepthief' over here, not too long before Laubrock relocated to NYC and they are most definitely worth seeing.
  11. Yes, the quality of the playing really shines through in the Hackett collection, even though classic jazz it aint. One of those I think that I would be kicking myself later on if I passed on it (Mildred Bailey comes to mind..) I've ordered the 'Ella and Duke' LP box as well as several others of the new LP sets. With the discount this month and the pound up a bit, now is the time for those. Also snagged one of the George Wein in Mexicos. As of this morning, looks like Denny Zeitlin has gone from 'Last Chance'. Andrew Hill is still in there..
  12. Happy Birthday !
  13. 'The Spirit of 67' was in the Oliver Nelson Mosaic big box I think.
  14. Dippin is top notch Mobley, Presumably that's the Analogue Productions issue?
  15. I see you've gone for the Hackett. Good move - I've done the same.
  16. Sorry to hear this. 66 is no age - RIP.
  17. Greg certainly gets around! He has a regular UK slot - two weeks every July and November, playing every day. I've lost count of how many times I've seen him, but he's become a good friend. Yes, he likes pairing up with other altoists - here his choice is usually Alan Barnes. I have the excellent albums he made with Richie and Phil. After Swanage this Summer (the 'Abate and Barnes Show'), Messrs Abate and Barnes will probably head my list by a long way !
  18. That pretty well sums up my feelings about the music - bought all of these when they came out (apart from 'Tokyo Live') and have enjoyed them over the years for what they are. 'Civilisation' came out just around the time of the mid-80s hard bop comeback and brings back particularly fond memories. I saw the band at a free open-air gig in 1989 - again, fond memories (my ears took a pounding from Tony's drum kit).
  19. At that price, you can slip a copy in the box with the Mosaic LPs !
  20. Thanks for that........not so infinite search
  21. Thanks for the heads-up, erwbol...my order's in! and for those of us who already pre-ordered from them, the price has just dropped..
  22. Have to say I agree with every word of that, based on hearing the wonderful Mr Heath live.
  23. Jeez - Echoes of Pol Pot ! I hear you re: multiple versions of this stuff. I'll pass - happy enough with all the McMasters, Conns, RVGs, Mosaic Selects and vinyl versions I have. Enough is enough !
  24. apologies to Carla but I ditched my copy of this quite recently. Didn't do much for me. Hmm - I like it ! There again, I've had my copy for 30 years..
