  2. Yes, wonderful! and great photograph by Ray Avery !
  3. Other than the original US or UK LP issues, perhaps.
  4. Happy Birthday to Mr Cobb !
  5. Nice - never seen that one before !
  6. Yes, my copy of 'My Favourite Quintet' on vinyl is on the French America label. Original release on Charles Mingus Records is mega-rare I think.
  7. I wonder if 'Slightly Latin' will be in the stereo? - I think it is only mono in the Mercury CD box set. Big fan of all these albums (including 'Slightly Latin' - totally bonkers album but in a good way) so this one goes on the 'wants' list. With LP releases such as this one, Mosaic goes back to its roots.
  8. 9 The Gastown Steam Clock Caught a gig by that one - f*rted away to itself..
  9. Honestly, the game isn't designed to be played that way. Use your imagination! George Cables Gideon Osborne Baal
  10. Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All Stars 'Sunday Jazz A La Lighthouse Vol 1' (Japanese Contemporary, mono)

  12. Yes, very impressive - all over the drum kit and particularly good when adding a bit of extra fire behind Lockheart and Paricelli when stretching out during their solos. It reminded me a bit of Pat Metheny's 'Unity' Band but it was better.
  13. I think that first Plugged Nickel 2LP hit the UK and Europe in 1982 too. Remember buying it as soon as it came out and being astonished by the music on it. Melody Maker had a mega-positive review of the Japanese issue before this happened which was as frustrating as hell..
  14. Miles Davis 'Agharta' (CBS/Sony) LP1
  15. Just checked my Japanese pressing of 'Agharta' and it has those fancy labels. Can't say that I've ever noticed them before. The UK issue I also have has the much more sober orange labels of mid-70s UK CBS. Same cover art on the inner in both cases.
  16. Sounds good. Excellent players both. Fabulous gig, very enjoyable - and Paricelli gets better every time I see him. It was their quartet with Dudley Philips on bass and Dave Smith on drums (I think - subbing for Martin France).
  17. Mark Lockheart (saxes) and John Paricelli (guitar) at the local jazz club.
  18. Moe Koffman Dave McMurdo Phil Nimmons
  19. I've ordered a copy too. Looks like this one is a 'Number 1 Seller' on the Amazon UK site. They must be getting hits for it from everywhere on the planet !

  21. I remember hearing a track from that back in the day on BBC Radio 1 through my transistor radio, singles chart show. A one-off abberation for a jazz artist ! (John Handy's 'Hard Work' excluded) I guess that is a wrong perspective, would you like it if wasn't Byrd but Isaac Hayes? And Electric Byrd is a gorgeous record. Ah - slight misunderstanding. Abberation not by Byrd but the Beeb !
  22. I remember hearing a track from that back in the day on BBC Radio 1 through my transistor radio, singles chart show. A one-off abberation for a jazz artist ! (John Handy's 'Hard Work' excluded)
  23. Horace Tapscott - good point. I missed a solo piano recital in Western Canada back in the mid-90s (low-key gig, really kicking myself for missing that one - a rare Canada tour) then about 5 years later I attended what was to be a benefit performance for him in LA. Turned out Horace died the day before and it ended up being his wake . John Mayer Indo Jazz Fusions II - Got to the gig (local) in good time as they were setting up, then rushed back home to get an LP for him to sign. By the time I got back the gig had just started and the doors (a church) were locked - very, very frustrating as it sounded great. Mayer was killed in a car accident a year or so after that night..
  24. Exactly - the percussionist behind Hendrix (Jerry Velez) looked to be going hell for leather but listening to the soundtrack he and Juma are hardly discernable above Hendrix, Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell. First time I have seen that performance and it is a great one !
