Just seen the email. Not a lot left, a couple of Mosaic Contemporaries - and the box sets seem to have gone.

'Duck, Son and Pinker' in Bath used to compare favourably on prices of Blue Note CDs comared with HMV and Virgin - until they were undercut big-time by FOPP. FOPP during circa 2001-2006 was like kids in a candy store.

My Bergenfield copy has tune times and dance types in pen on the back so it must have been previously owned by a lounge lothario !

That Paris performance of 'Fables of Faubus' on the 3LP set was the first time I heard Dolphy (it was on the radio) and I thought at the time his bass clarinet solo was astonishing (still do). The Dolphy/Little Five Spot recordings I think of as some of the very best live jazz ever recorded. A wonderful balance of tradition and adventurous musical spirit.

Wonderful set, so underestimated as a chronicle of improvisation at it's best. I only have the LP and would like to get the discs. Looks like the box is selling for around $100 at Amazon UK. This 3CD set is great ! It came and went pretty fast in that Verve Elite and even then took some finding I recall.

Bob, If you have 2hrs 29m to spare you can watch Dingo on Youtube Yeah - thanks John - Just found it on there. Sounds like an epic !

I store my LPs in open cubes - most of the LPs are in those Japanese transparent inners and both sleeve and LP are stored within PVC sleeves. Providing you hoover the vicinity regularly and clean behind and under the cubes once a year I find it works well. An occasional clean on a record cleaning machine keeps the dust gremlins in check.

Just been giving the old Regal Zonophone LP a spin and reminded again of just what a good production job Lansdowne did on this one - beautifully recorded and crystal clear. A nicely balanced programme of music too - 'orchestral' material featuring strings/harps and with a Bali-ish feel on side 1 then side 2 of the LP devoted to the poetry/vocals with Ivor Cutler/'The Dong With The Luminous Nose' (as featured by John Peel) kicking things off and the rest of the side featuring Norma Winstone. The Ivor Cutler track is sensational. I want this one for the I-Pod and new notes by Dave Gelly so a CD order is going in.

Other than the London Oxford Street store, their brick-and-mortar stores stopped stocking anything interesting for me from about 2008. They did a big de-stocking of serious music and switched to games, mobile phones, headphones and other superfluous stuff. Serious deterioration in stores like bath, which used to be full of interesting stuff. These days I prefer to buy from them on-line, if ever (Vocalions and the like). Sad. Interesting that their near-equivalent in France - FNAC - seems to be doing OK. Meanwhile - the Film is out.. http://www.youtube.c...astshopstanding
